"Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this 2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Convertible Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition. Finished in Summit White with body-length Inferno Orange rally stripes and Indianapolis 500 graphics over an Inferno Orange and Black leather interior, this Camaro was created for a particularly significant year in American motorsports. The 2011 Indianapolis 500 marked the 100th anniversary of the race, while 2011 also marked Chevrolet's centennial year. Chevrolet produced just 500 matching Pace Car replicas for the public.
Making this example especially interesting is its drivetrain. Under the hood is the 6.2-liter LS3 V8, factory rated at 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, paired with the TR6060 6-speed manual transmission. Published Camaro production data indicates that only 127 of the 500 Pace Car replicas received the manual transmission, making the LS3 and 6-speed combination a particularly uncommon configuration within the already limited Pace Car production.
The Indianapolis 500 treatment goes far beyond a set of decals. The Pace Car package brought Summit White paint with full-length Inferno Orange rally stripes, unique Indianapolis 500 graphics and badging, a unique grille, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, and a black convertible top. Inside, the theme continues with Inferno Orange and Black leather, contrasting white trim, Inferno Orange accents, and Indianapolis 500 logos embossed into the front headrests. One of the coolest details is found across the instrument panel, where the orange exterior stripe theme is continued inside the car.
As a 2SS equipped with the RS package, there is plenty of performance and technology underneath the special-edition appearance as well. Factory equipment includes Brembo four-piston brakes, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, a head-up display, center-console auxiliary gauges, HID headlamps, and unique taillamps. Heated leather seating, power seats, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power locks, power steering, and the power convertible top round out the driving experience.
The appearance of the 2011 edition was no accident. Chevrolet specifically designed its white and orange color combination to evoke the legendary 1969 Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. The 1969 Camaro's white and orange Pace Car appearance became one of the most recognizable combinations from the first-generation Camaro era, and Chevrolet revisited that theme for the Centennial running of the Indianapolis 500.
That connection between 1969 and 2011 is represented in the memorabilia accompanying this particular Camaro. The framed presentation includes Chevrolet promotional artwork displaying the 1969 Pace Car alongside the 2011 Pace Car and carrying Chevrolet's ""One Indy 500. 500 Pure American Sports Cars"" campaign. The display provides a great visual comparison of the two generations and the heritage behind the 2011 car.
The collection goes even further. Included in the framed presentation is the original window sticker along with Pace Car documentation, Indianapolis 500 credentials, tickets, period promotional material, and other Centennial-era memorabilia. Also included is a photograph depicting a 2011 Camaro Pace Car out on the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, giving the display another visual connection to the event that inspired the car.
Additional Indianapolis 500 collectibles accompany the Camaro, including packaged GreenLight die-cast cars representing the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car and Dan Wheldon's 2011 Indianapolis 500-winning race car. Wheldon won the Centennial running of the Indianapolis 500, making the accompanying collectible particularly fitting alongside the Pace Car memorabilia. Additional Centennial material and a car cover are included as well.
Between its limited Pace Car production, uncommon 6-speed manual configuration, LS3 power, special Inferno Orange interior treatment, Indianapolis 500 embossed headrests, distinctive exterior graphics, and extensive collection of Pace Car memorabilia, this Camaro offers considerably more than the appearance of a special edition. It brings together Chevrolet performance, Camaro's history at Indianapolis, and the Centennial running of one of America's most famous races.
