The Volkswagen Group is a German automotive manufacturing company started in 1937 and indirectly majority owned by the Porsche-Piëch family. They design, manufacture, and distribute passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, engines, and turbomachinery. Their first claim to fame came with the production of the Volkswagen Beetle, which remains one of the most successful car designs of all time.
During WWII, Volkswagen's production turned to military versions of the Beetle, including the Kübelwagen, Schwimmwagen, and several designs for heavy tanks. Porsche developed the chassis used as the base of Elefant tanks and Maus super-heavy tanks.
