The GT500 KR was developed as the ultimate evolution of the S197 Mustang and paid tribute to the legendary 1968 Shelby KR. Under the hood sits a supercharged 5.4 litre V8 producing 540 horsepower and 510 lb ft of torque, a significant increase over the standard GT500. Power is delivered through a performance oriented drivetrain featuring a short throw shifter and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, providing exceptional acceleration and driver engagement. Performance was impressive even by modern standards, with an estimated 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.3 seconds and quarter mile times in the mid 12 second range.
Beyond the power, the KR received substantial chassis upgrades. The suspension features uniquely tuned springs, shocks, and struts, along with a Ford Racing front strut tower brace, upgraded sway bars, and revised suspension geometry designed to improve handling and driver confidence. Massive Brembo front brakes with four piston aluminum calipers provide outstanding stopping power, supported by four channel ABS, traction control, and electronic brake force distribution.
The exterior is instantly recognizable thanks to its lightweight composite hood with functional vents and hood pins, unique Shelby stripes, exclusive badging, and KR specific wheels. Every detail was designed to distinguish the King of the Road from a standard GT500.
Inside, the KR combines modern comfort with serious performance credentials, creating a car equally at home on the open highway, at a car show, or on a spirited weekend drive.
