"2008 Saturn Sky Redline Convertible
""The Saturn name was first attached to the project in July 1982, and although the logo later created for the division was an abstraction of the planet and its rings, the name was originally a reference to the Saturn V rocket, which had helped America beat Russia to the moon. In the context of an American automaker that had been losing market share to the Japanese, it was an obvious metaphor."" Motor Trend Sept 2023
For consignment, a 2008 Saturn Sky Redline convertible with a title verified 18,969 actual miles. That practically new Sky is decked out in a desirable spec and while GM production numbers are proprietary, we're guessing this is a relatively rare color.
Exterior
The combination of the tan canvas roof and Bluestone Metallic paint is strikingly handsome and one we have not seen before here at the mall after more than a dozen passing through our halls. In profile, the blue is interrupted only by a modest line of fender vent trim and the door handle while the subtle, coke bottle shape shows off the warm blue hue. The front comes at you low and wide with large, flush headlights and chrome enhanced fog lights on the lower spoiler which forms the gaping, center intake. The rounded tail takes in the flush lights while a trifecta of design includes flying buttresses from the soft top, fairing from the hard tonneau, and a wing that funnels central air through the decklid. 18-inch chrome wheels carry 40 series tires with a mid 2025 date code. Imperfections include some touched up and untouched chips, surface scratches, and some chin scrapes.
Interior
You don't have to be Irish to love the black and tan palette on the inside, beginning on the door panel where black plastic frames the Tan leather insert with a clean and simple design. The seats continue the two tone trend and include the coveted Redline logo on the seat back, and both sport bucket seats present very well. It's black and nickel that takes over for the front with a robust sport steering fronting two deep set gauges while piano black serves as the backdrop for the center stack and it's there you'll find the familiar GM A/C panel and AM/FM/CD radio. A silver plastic faceplate surrounds the ergonomic shifter while black carpet and spotless mats cover the floor. The storage area in back is fully finished in formed and cloth covered panels, all presenting cleanly.
Drivetrain
The front clip pivots forward, Corvette style, (or Jaguar E-type style if you prefer), and reveals a clean 2.0 liter Ecotec turbocharged four cylinder engine rated at 240 horsepower and mated here to a 5L40E 5-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the rear axle and 3.73 gears with limited slip.
Undercarriage
No surprises here on this 18,000 miles car, showing only light signs of usage and clean conditions. The single exhaust runs through an original equipment muffler which emits two tail pipes that exit through square tips that fit into contoured openings of the rear valance. Power disc brakes are on all four wheels and suspension is fully independent SLA front and rear.
Drive-Ability
Nothing shocking here...just smooth acceleration and a comfortable cabin, nimble in turns, and on point stopping. We could see taking this on short jaunts or long trips, top up or top down. As expected, all functional items in and on the car work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
We think Sky's haven't hit their mark on collectability yet, and Redlines will always be the most desired version. Here's a clean, low mileage future classic that you can enjoy while its desirability potentially increases with each passing year.
