"2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe
""The rear drive Infiniti G35 is a BMW 3 Series fighter if ever there was one. A discussion of the G must start with what's underneath. Like the 350Z, both the sedan and sport coupe are built on Nissan's FM platform. FM stands for ""Front Midship"" and refers to the positioning of the engine. Compared to most front engine cars, Infiniti's engineers have located the G35's V6 further rearward behind the front wheels to improve balance and handling."" Edmunds.com
For consignment, a 2006 Infiniti G35 coupe with at title verified 92,083 actual miles. Although intended as luxury sport touring cars, G-series Infiniti's have become a favored platform for the tuner community who appreciate their base performance and aftermarket network. In stock configuration like this one however, they make great daily drivers.
Exterior
Someone took great care of this car and it shows in the exterior where the Laser Red paint presents almost flawlessly. The unique styling sets the G35 apart with flush tail lights that track inward and contour around the decklid between a smooth rear bumper cover and sporty wing. The four seater's profile is decidedly wedge shaped with a grille that graduates rearward, headlights that are integrated into the fenders and sweep back, and a steeply raked windshield. This is one car that looks to be moving even as it's parked. 19-inch wheels provide exciting visual contrast to the red and carry staggered width low profile tires. And low it is, which causes the only imperfections we find on the car which are scrapes on the chin.
Interior
Infiniti is the luxury brand of Nissan and it's the interiors that set the two brands apart. Finely appointed with beige leather throughout, this one greets us with handsome and robust door panels, nicely crafted and combining taupe plastic inserts with monochromatic beige coverage. The seats are the epitome of luxury touring with side bolster, plenty of padding, and a panel of seat adjusting switchgear and both front and back are in great shape. Up front, the ergonomic steering wheel houses buttons in brushed metal trim plates and we see more of this material on the center stack where black buttons control the information system, air conditioning, and Bose AM/FM/CD radio. The aluminum colored trim waterfalls onto the center console housing the shifter in a brown leather boot and in good condition. Our instrument cluster is backlit in gold and consists of four main gauges while other information is displayed on two screens on the dash which flank the iconic Infiniti analog clock. Here we note a few scratches on the textured vinyl dash. Low pile tan carpet covers the floor, plush gray carpet lines the clean trunk, and a nice headliner surrounds the sunroof and overhead console.
Drivetrain
A plastic shroud covers most of the engine in the bay keeping things visually clean for the 3.5 liter DOHC V6, fuel injected and putting out 280 horsepower with a 5-speed automatic sending power to the rear axle with 3.357 gears.
Undercarriage
Commiserate with the mileage is the relatively clean underside with some typical surface rust and oil free components. The dual exhaust joins to run as one down the center tunnel, enter a stock style transverse mounted muffler in back, and exit as two chrome tips out back. Four wheel power disc brakes are onboard and independent multi link suspension is utilized front and back as well. Clean knuckles and the lack of any grime on the underside is impressive!
Drive-Ability
The slightly reclined position is provided by a comfortable seat and a nicely ergonomic cabin and the big V6 starts without issue and moves us briskly onto the test loop where this car does everything well, from accelerating to braking to handling. Good old Nissan reliability renders every operation item in the car in working order and we could definitely get used to these environs for daily use. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Technology has come a long way in 20 years, but this car still feels modern and relevant. It's comfortable, quick, and its exterior design still looks good, a testament to thoughtful blueprinting years ago. A design so good that the later Q-series cars didn't veer too far from it. Here's a well maintained G35 in red that will come to you with service records back to 2013.
