"2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
""Of the 2005 Mustang's myriad upgrades, none is more significant than its new foundation. The Mustang now rides on a heavily modified version of the Lincoln LS and Jag S-type platform. Unlike those luxo-cruisers, America's favorite pony car retains its blue collar solid rear axle. But now it's a three link coil spring layout, abetted by a tubular panhard rod."" Car and Driver review, December 2004
For consignment, a 2005 Ford Mustang GT convertible with a title verified 36,297 actual miles. Here's a car that's 21 years old with less than 2,000 miles per year on average, in a great color and the increasingly rare mostly original condition!
Exterior
With very little exception, the entire car is bathed in two stage Redfire Metallic paint with seamless bumper covers, a rear wing, and a color matched tail light panel where the lenses themselves complement the paint with translucent clarity. In front, orange markers show some contrast along with the headlights, inboard fog lights, and floating horse on the black grille. Nice wheels add so much to a car and that's the case here with 17-inch Bullitt wheels in argent gray, wrapped in even sized tires that might be the originals based on date code. Our consignor added 3 bar spinners to the wheels for a bit more of the heritage vibe. The black canvas top is in great shape. Imperfections noted include a number of chips including touched up and otherwise, scratches, edge wear over the license plate, chin scrapes including deeper damage on protruding corners.
Interior
Standard black plastic door panels contain a perforated Crimson Red leather insert that is known in this generation to come loose, even on low mileage cars, and this is what we have on the passenger door on otherwise clean door panels. Rarely seen Crimson Red bucket seats occupy the front with some light wear and compression on the driver's side and good condition is found on the passenger and rear 2+2 seats. A three spoke steering wheel fronts a two gauge instrument cluster with condition needles grouped together in the middle. Black plastic alternates with the aluminum panel on the dash for an attractive look, and the center stack houses the Shaker 500 AM/FM/CD functions, and other information, over the A/C dials, all integrated in a charcoal trim plate. In the console, we have a shifter in a leather boot, ahead of requisite cupholders over black carpet and all are in very nice condition. The trunk is finished with gray mats and houses a car cover.
Drivetrain
Three hundred horsepower is generated by the clean 4.6 liter 3 valve V8 under the hood, fuel injected of course and mated to a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission that routes power to a Ford 8.8"" rear with 3.55 gears and TracLoc.
Undercarriage
A clean underside reveals some typical surface rust but dry conditions and solid structure. Four wheel power disc brakes are here along with dual exhaust running through original equipment and terminating at chrome tips in back. Suspension includes Macpherson struts in front and a 3 link with coil springs and panhard bar in back.
Drive-Ability
This pampered pony provides the answers to all our questions. Will it run well? Yes. Is it peppy? Indeed, but on older tires, we're not flogging it. Is it comfortable and well equipped? Absolutely. Does any function need attention? Nope, everything works just as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Just a clean, straight, attractive drop top with 300 horses under the hood and a fun stick in the center console. A fitting car for everyday use and a welcome site at Cars and Coffee too! Make room in the stable for this crimson colt.
