"2005 Chevrolet SSR
""The host of ""Tool Time"" would grunt about the 30 percent more horsepower and 22 percent added torque that the '05 SSR picks up from the Corvette sourced LS2 6.0 liter V8. With the new Tremec 6-speed manual 'box, the 4760 lb SSR will blast to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and through the quarter in the 13.8s, more than two seconds faster than the '03-'04 models. The new 4-speed automatic is about two tenths slower than the stick, but still gives the acceleration you'd expect from a ""Super Sport Roadster."" Motor Trend, Jan, 2005
For consignment, a 2005 Chevrolet SSR showing 64,137 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to Delaware state non-disclosure rules. This was sold new in California and has had three owners, the latest of which added an SSR front stiffening plate to improve the ride.
Exterior
As you can see, this truck is Redline Red, and between 2003 and 2006, 6,695 SSR's left the factory dressed in red, the most popular color. In 2005, just 1,635 were red. It shines bright here and is accented with a gold bowtie on the chrome grille. Over the cabin, the rounded retractable top creates a streamlined bubble roof fronted by a steeply raked and slightly curved windshield. With the top down, decorative hoops that resemble roll bars sit on each headrest and a windscreen becomes visible, while a hard tonneau conceals the roof that slides nicely behind the seats. Twin exhaust tips boldly exit under the sculpted rear valance as the tailgate fits flush to the back, housing the third brake light. Chrome wheels are 19-inch in front and 20-inch in back with staggered size tires that gives this ride a muscular stance under those wide hips, and each with an early to mid 2020 date code. Imperfections include some chips, a variety of touched up scratches and chips, a notable ding, delaminating on the running board trim, and some general including and an area of dullness.
Interior
The rounded theme continues inside beginning with the door panels with door actuators inside circle trim and round speakers embedded in the molded plastic. Ebony leather seats are sporty and supportive and in excellent condition and both occupants enjoy various electric controls including heat with switches below. A fat leather wrapped steering wheel presents to the driver and offers thumb controls on the chromed crossmember, framing three gauges on the panel and a brushed aluminum mid panel that houses the simple A/C controls under the AM/FM/CD radio. An auxiliary triple gauge package is tucked under the dash on the center console just in front of the shifter with a red faceplate with a myriad of toggles. Low pile charcoal carpet is one the floor protected by SSR branded mats and the bed has a plastic floor and a spare has been added.
Drivetrain
With room to spare, this clean bay is the host to the 6.0 liter LS V8, fuel injected and putting out 390 horsepower. It's backed by a 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear wheels where it finds a 10 bolt axle with 3.73 gears and Positraction.
Undercarriage
The clean underside includes dual exhaust through original equipment and power disc brakes at all four wheels. We note the added front stiffening plate and the suspension consists of coil springs at all four corners and a 4 link in back. There are new Bilstein rear shocks, new rear bumpers on the frame, and a 4 bolt HD crossmember. The knuckles are clear, conditions are dry, and there is no surface rust to be found.
Drive-Ability
The cabin is a comfortable place to be whether it be for long rides, or short jaunts like the one we're about to take on the test loop. The truck has good acceleration, solid handling, and plenty of visibility through the rounded windows. All functions on this Super Sport work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Is it a compact truck, a hot rod, or a two seat sports car? Well, it's all of those things and with the 6.0 liter under the hood, calling this thing a Vette with a bed would not be out of line! This is a very nice example that's been well cared for and recipient of some nice mods, all wrapped up in a vibrant red package.
