""Bowing to market pressures, GM decided that 2002 would be the last year for the fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro as well as the Pontiac Firebird. They marked the 35th anniversary of the model with a special Z4C 35th Anniversary Edition Camaro added to the SS trim. The cars were all Bright Red with black and gray leather seats with 35th embroidery on the headrests. Coupes required T-tops, convertibles had black soft tops. For consignment, a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS 35th anniversary coupe showing 37,008 miles but the true miles are unknown. This is a one family owned car since new, and one of the 1,971 anniversary coupes produced. The cars were assembled in Quebec and then shipped to nearby LaSalle so SLP could add special items including the striping package.�
Exterior
Nothing veering from the playbook here as Bright Red paint is wildly augmented with stripes and graphics over the top of the car. In profile, the specific 17-inch 10 spoke wheels and oval designation on the fender are the only things that offer clues that this is no ordinary SS with T-tops. In front, the silver anniversary stripes begin on the lower fascia, breaking for the intake ducts, then resurfacing on the nose and back onto the hood where the stripes transform into a checkered flag flanking the muscular SS hood scoop with black painted runway leading to the gaping gap. T-tops, a feature almost synonymous with F-bodies come next, followed by the B-pillar, curved rear glass, and integrated wing with the checkered flag above, and stripes below. A smooth red bumper cover leads to the SS's big dual tips. Imperfections are few with some rock chips on the front stripe, some chin scrapes, and a crack in the bumper above the license plate box.�
Interior
Standard black configuration for the tidy door panels but the seats are special for the 35th, dressed in Ebony leather with gray inserts and a bright, embroidered ode to the special edition on the headrests.� The driver's seat shows some usage with some looseness and discoloration, and all other seats are nearly pristine. An ergonomically minded steering wheel with sizable thumb controls fronts the standard Z28 gauge cluster, black faced gauges behind a sheet of plexiglass while the center stack holds the coveted anniversary badge above an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio with AUX and USB as well as the very basic, three knob A/C panel. The sea of ebony continues on the center console with a black boot around a black knobbed shifter, all in good condition over low pile black carpet. The cargo area has T-top covers and is finished in gray panels with some separation at the latch panel.� ��
Drivetrain�
Impressive but not showy, a very clean 5.7 liter LS1 is under the hood, pumping out an impressive 345 ponies and mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual that sends power to the 10 bolt axle with 3.42 gears and Positraction.� This is one of 1,037 T-top 6-speed cars. Naturally, power disc brakes are front and rear. Our consignor notes the addition of headers and an oversize MAF sensor.�
Undercarriage
Clean underneath as well with some surface rust peppering the rear axle, suspension parts, and knuckle area. No invasive rust is seen nor any leaks of any kind. The dual exhaust comes together as one, enters a single original equipment muffler, then splits into two tailpipes to exit via chrome tips. Suspension is comprised of coil springs in front and coil springs with a torque arm and in back.�
Drive-Ability
The vibrant design on the exterior makes it look fast when standing still, but that won't help us assess its functionality, so it's off to the test loop we roll. LS1's have a way of warming up to drivers and occupants and put some impressive power to the ground, while maintaining a surefooted grasp with 275/40ZR17 rubber all around, and fairly new ones that have a mid 2022 date code. Every function available on this modern muscle car operates as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.�
