"2000 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
""By the end of the small block evolutionary trail, Zora Arkus-Duntov had the 1970 RPO LT1 cars delivering 370 of the strongest horses known in any showroom. So, there was the pungent odor of dj vu when the LS1 engine, descendant of that original small block, became the C5 Corvette's prime mover in 1997. At last Corvette traditionalists have what they want; what they have demanded since the small block Corvette V8 revolution of December, 1955."" From the print ad featuring the C5-R and its relation to the street car.
For consignment, a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 43,944 actual miles and by all measures, appears to be a car that's been pampered the entire extent of those nearly 44,000 miles. Just 33,682 Corvettes were built in 2000 and this one presents in one of the rarest colors by production number.
Exterior
Just 1,663 Corvettes were painted Bowling Green Metallic in 2000, second rarest only to the Bright Blue exterior of which there were only 851. And the paint is fantastic on this car, belying the mileage because usually cars with more than 40,000 miles show ""something"". There are no swirl marks, no blems, no scratches on this deep paint which looks pristine, covering the long hood, hardtop, and wedge shaped profile with perfection. Door handles, side mirrors, and of course, front and rear bumper covers all wear the shimmering green interrupted only by the cross flag emblems, red tail lights, and front marker lights. 17-inch chrome wheels are up front, with 18's in the back, both ends wearing ZR rated 45 series tires with staggered width. Center exit quad exhaust cap off this iconic automobile with diffusers built into the rear valance. The imperfections will likely go unnoticed as they are a few small curb nicks on the rim of the wheels.
Interior
Black plastic over tan makes up the two tone door panels with a rubber coated switch plate on the driver's door that shows no wear where it usually shows up first. Minor creasing and slight compression are found on the Camel leather bucket seat of the driver, and we mean slight, while the passenger seat presents full and clean. Its Guiness and Bass inside, handsome black and tan is prevalent with the thick steering wheel, dash, and instrument cluster going to the dark side with easy to read gauges that pop with white numbering and bright red needles. Rounded buttons adorn the center stack that includes an AM/FM/CD radio over a factory climate panel, both with digital green readouts. The shifter is dressed in a black leather boot over a formed plastic center console with a dial switch to adjust ride control at your fingertips. The low pile tan carpet is protected by black Corvette mats up front but is open for viewing in the hatch area and it barely looks used.
Drivetrain
Attention to detail did not stop with the paint. The engine bay is just about showroom clean, housing the mighty 5.7 liter LS1 V8 rated at 345 horsepower and mated to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 3.15 gear with limited slip in back. Power disc brakes are employed in front and back.
Undercarriage
The first area that shows any usage at all is the underside, but we're still questioning whether our consignor added an extra digit to the mileage, (he didn't). Other than typical road dust and some heat induced change in the exhaust color, the bottom side is clean as can be and we're guessing this car has never seen rain, let alone snow or salt. That dual exhaust runs tandem down the middle before meeting Borla S-type mufflers and exhaust system in stainless steel for a grand final act. Suspension consists of independent unequal length double wishbones with transverse composite monoleaf springs and monotube shocks.
Drive-Ability
If you're a manual snob, your first thought might be to exclude this from your list. But the automatic does not disappoint and delivers the Vette's raucous power with two pedals below and two hands on the wheel. It never ceases to surprise us a bit and is an absolute blast. Add impeccable handling and you've got yourself a legendary sports car, regardless of who or what is doing the shifting! This prized possession and its functionality operate exactly as it should, including the head's up display. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Kudos to stalwart stewards of great cars. And that's what we have here. A car with relative low mileage that presents better than its 25 year existence. What's black and tan and green all over? The next car to occupy your garage! Run, don't walk to Classic Auto Mall for this sweet C5.
