"2000 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
""The Corvette Club of America was founded by John Ralph and Charles Eyre who organized the first club meeting on July 17, 1956 at the Rosenthal Chevrolet dealership in Arlington, Virginia. The formation of the club was greatly aided by the sports car environment in the Nation's Capital following WWII. The Washington D.C. area was a hotbed of sports car activity. The very first region to join the Sports Car Club of America, (SCCA), back in 1948 was the Washington D.C. Region."" Cca-vette-club.org
For consignment, a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title verified 32,385 actual miles. A garage kept, two owner car with a clean CarFax and stunning spec, a fantastic stance, and the ever popular ability to drop the top at a moment's notice.
Exterior
Vettes look great in just about any color, but many will argue that dark red is one of the best, here in factory Red Tint Tri-Coat and like most Corvettes, this one has been pampered and the body and paint remain in excellent condition 25 years later! The dramatic wedge shape is not lost to observers even when the top is up as the contrasting tan canvas never disrupts the rising shoulder line of the sports car and the color combo gets a chef's kiss every time. Then of course, you have the chrome 5 spoke wheels, looking as sporty as you can get and staggered with 17-inch fronts and 18-inch rears carrying staggered size low profile tires with a mid 2020 date code. The fender gill sends off side body molding and the whole configuration looks like the long tail of a stingray. Out back, center exit quad exhaust is an epic feature. Imperfections are noted as one surface scratch and typical chin scrapes not visible from the top.
Interior
Black and tan is the palette used on the inside, and they must have done market research to see what people like best, because it's a stunning combination with a tan that Chevrolet calls Light Oak. The door panels are formed black plastic over a tan base perfectly shaped for ergonomics and providing a resting place for your left elbow. Tan leather bucket seats are split by a center console that provides a place for your right elbow, and you'll want to keep it there as we have a 6-speed manual shifter nearby so leave it to your left to do the steering! The seats are in good shape with the driver's showing a bit of patina creasing but each are fully intact over plush tan carpet that extends from the cab to the storage area in back and presents cleanly. Up front, Corvette's clean and monochromatic dashboard starts with a beefy leather wrapped steering wheel which frames the concise and clear gauge cluster with a series of six easy to read dials. Charcoal components occupy the center stack, namely an AM/FM/CD unit and the simple climate panel, while to the right, a handle is provided up front for the passenger.
Drivetrain
Plastic covers not only make the engine bay a tidy place, but it's made easier to clean and this one bears that out where the 5.7 liter LS1 V8 is tucked in, producing 350 horsepower and mated to a T56 6-speed manual transmission. Power is sent to the 3.42 gears in back and the car is equipped with a limited slip differential as well as power disc brakes on all four corners.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath where both surface rust and errant fluids are absent! The dual exhaust runs through original equipment mufflers, the black paint of which is flaking, leading to the quad exhaust leaving via chrome tips. Suspension consists of independent unequal length double wishbones with transverse composite monoleaf springs and monotube shocks. The car is equipped with selective ride dampening.
Drive-Ability
It only feels slightly dated if you're hopping out of a C7 and right into this 2000, otherwise, it's ergonomics and creature comforts are really all you need for a good time, as the 350 horsepower under your right foot in a dance with your left foot and right hand, quickly make you forget, or simply not care, about what year this car was produced. It's fast, fun, and sticks to the ground as if on magnets. As a pampered possession with low mileage, everything works just as you'd expect and we spin this adult go kart back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
At Chevrolet, smile is spelled V-E-T-T-E because this car not only plants you to the ground with race inspired grip, but plants a grin on your face that lingers long after the ride is over. And with a 6-speed manual, it has a security system practically built in as only cool, law abiding people know how to drive one! Seriously, though, this is a clean example in a wonderful spec that's ready to host its next caretaker. Who knows where cars will be like 25 years from now, but we're willing to be this 2000 Corvette will still be fun, still be classic, and by all measures, still be fast.
