1999 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 30th Anniversary Convertible Pace Car Replica
Arguably, no one does anniversary cars like Pontiac does Trans Ams. Or should we say, did? With Pontiac's demise in 2010, it not only spelled the end for Firebirds, but also killed the run of anniversary editions that started with the 10th in 1979 and continued with the 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th. Each special edition was limited in production and painted in distinctive colors and/or included a designating decal package.
For consignment, a 1999 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 30th Anniversary convertible Pace Car replica with a title verified 19,139 actual miles. This is one of just 535 anniversary convertibles produced and one of 1,600 in total. This one replicates the handful of cars designated to actually pace the Daytona 500 in 1999.
Exterior
Like most of the Trans Am anniversary cars, the '99 pays homage to its origins, the '69 Trans Am, done up in Arctic White with blue striping. This one goes that extra step by including Daytona livery decals that include a colorful door piece and Official Pace Car on the rocker panels as well as more decorative decals on the front and rear aprons. But the Pontiac excitement doesn't stop there as anodized 17-inch blue wheels are added and reserved for the anniversary edition along with sweeping blue graphics over the rear quarter panel. The Ram Air hood and fascia of this generation is a favorite feature with aggressive nostrils, deep set fog lights, and marker lights that fit within aerodynamic coves. A windshield banner that can be read from the cheap seats clings to the glass and a dark blue canvas top caps this special edition. Imperfections include some edge chips, curb rash, clear coat deglazing on the rim of the wheels, side body molding that is discolored, and chin scrapes.
Interior
White inserts within charcoal framing on the door panels continues to keep the dramatic vibes of this car going and both doors present with clean materials, with a single scratch on the header of the passenger door. White leather bucket seats occupy the front with Anniversary embroidered headrests and while the driver's seat shows some minor creasing, the rest, including the deep 2+2's in back, are in great shape with a small stain on a rear upper noted. Up front, an airbag filled steering wheel fronts a simple instrument cluster with all the essential information and smooth materials frame the center stack where the gray buttoned Monsoon AM/FM/CD player and A/C panel reside. A T-handle shifter is in the center console along with a coveted and numbered 30th anniversary badge, (0174). Gray carpet floods the floor and gray panels finish the trunk, all in clean condition.
Drivetrain
Tucked back into the firewall is the 5.7 liter LS1 V8, pumping out 325 horsepower and mated toa 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the 10 bolt in back and 3.23 gears with Positraction.
Undercarriage
A touch of surface rust and typical oxidation but otherwise very clean underneath as the dual exhaust system enters the original muffler which expels a pair of tailpipes and polished tips. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a torque arm in back.
Drive-Ability
We don't expect any trouble from a low mileage 5.7 liter and our expectations were met! Just good clean fun with lots of power, straight tracking, and thanks in part to newer tires with an early 2022 date code, insane F-body handling! All functions on this track star operate as they should and we can only imagine how much fun it would be topless! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
