"1998 Cadillac Deville Sedan
""Cadillac has maintained a proud legacy of engineering excellence and automotive innovation that spans 96 years. That's far longer than most of our competitors have even existed. It all began when Henry M. Leland founded Cadillac and resolved to build a car with no compromises, made by a company with no tolerance for the status quo. The 1998 DeVille continues this pact with perfection."" From the 1998 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1998 Cadillac Deville sedan showing 63,108 miles but true miles are unknown. The Deville name was retired after the 2005 model year and eight generations of setting the luxury bar. But the name wouldn't completely disappear as future models contained the acronym DTS which stood for Deville Touring Sedan.
Exterior
This example has an enormous presence and we're not just talking about dimensions. Bright two stage Red Tint Coat Metallic is sharply contrasted by the bright body side molding that runs end to end, breaking only for the 16-inch wheels wrapped in fresh 225/60R16 tires with an early 2024 date code. Up front, composite headlights sit flush outside of a prominent eggcrate grille while in back, the Red Tint dominates with the exception of the thin vertical tail lights, polished bumper liner, and sizable reverse lights bookending the license plate box. Notable big proportions include all four doors and the rear overhang. Imperfections include scuffs, scratches, and chips throughout including the plastic rocker panels and front and rear bumper covers and the rear also has a linear crack. Chin scrapes are here as is a touch of overspray on some rocker trim. The wheels show some delamination of the clear but the center caps remain in nice shape.
Interior
Soft Shale surfaces on the doors are accented with glossy woodgrain insert trim, carpeted lowers, and prominent courtesy lights. The driver's shows some light usage and the other three are in near pristine condition. The long doors open up to beige leather buckets seats in front, soft and subtle, and a big bench in back and they all show some usage, most evident on the driver as usual. The band of wood continues almost seamlessly across the wide dashboard where greenlit digital readouts fill a black screen in front the steering wheel and continue on the AM/FM/Cassette radio, embedded in the center. The beige carpet below shows some age and so do the mats and the headliner above is intact with some subtle waves. Out back, the trunk will fit just about anything you can throw at it, and hold it in its gray cloth paneled and clean environment.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a relatively clean 4.6 liter Northstar V8 rated at a respectable 275 horsepower, fuel injected, and mated to a 4T80E 4-speed automatic transaxle that keeps power up front with 3.11 gears.
Undercarriage
It's clean underneath with some typical surface rust on certain components and a few drops of oil on a brace between the oil pan and transaxle. But the knuckles are clear and there's no invasive rust to speak of. A single exhaust travels in a tunnel, splits in back to travel through original mufflers and two tips terminate discreetly out back. Power disc brakes are at all four wheels, and suspension is independent at both ends with Macpherson struts up front and coil springs in back.
Drive-Ability
Last of the land yachts, the big Caddy doesn't disappoint in the ""rides like a cloud"" department but we don't get far as the car runs hot, registering at 218 degrees during idle and explaining the Temp Warning light noted when the car came in. Despite the transverse engine, there's still a hump in the middle of the floor, a throwback for those of us who grew up with 70's Cadillacs! And we were still able to test functions which scored 100 on our checklist! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
You'll have to get it checked, but it's still a lot of car for the money! Big, luxurious, and with all the bells and whistles you'll need on the long drives to the shore, or short jaunts to the grocery store. Don't be shy, you've got plenty of trunk space for anything you want to buy at Kroeger or maybe even IKEA!
