1992 Buick Roadmaster Limited 4 Door Sedan
The Roadmaster name was used by Buick three times over 60 years with and there was a 30 year hiatus before it was reintroduced for the 1991 model year, giving legitimacy to the name as it was Buick's largest vehicle on the road during the era from '91 to '96 and marked a return of the rear wheel drive platform for a sedan since 1985.
For consignment, a 1992 Buick Roadmaster Limited 4 door sedan with a title verified 144,208 actual miles. These big Buicks are consistent sellers when they take temporary residents here at the mall and this well cared for example is ready for a new owner to experience all of the attributes of what's becoming an increasingly sought after relic of the 90's.
Exterior
If you're going to have a car that's about the size of a limousine, you might want to continue the classy looks by dipping it in two stage Dark Maple Metallic with bold silver and chrome body trim that encircles the car and utilizes the robust bumpers to complete the loop. There's also a subtle twin pinstripe on the shoulder line further helps to break up the billboard sized burgundy panels that make up this enormous car. A wide face with integrated headlights and a gaping grille fronts a big hood and out back, the large trunk lid cascades onto tail lights that span the six foot width of the car, leaving a gap for the license plate. In profile, the big windows give way to a long flat steel roof that is highlighted C-pillar landau treatment with chrome trim and horizontal opera lights. There are no fender skirts on the car, but the rear wheel openings drop to cover the top part of the tires which ride on chrome wire spoke 15-inch wheel covers. Overall, the sheet metal, paint and trim is in good shape. Imperfections include a touched up scratch on top surface or rear fender, various minor scuffs, chips, and scratches throughout, some glue residue on the chrome molding, and not surprisingly, every corner of the bumpers shows some light contact with foreign objects.
Interior
We're going full bore burgundy here with a combination of materials including plastic, leather, vinyl, and carpet that covers the door panels with the front doors being particularly long. The burgundy is accented with faux burlwood trim and all four doors present well. Big red leather bucket seats occupy the front with some minor wear on the driver's side. There is a center armrest for the backseat occupants who will enjoy a generous bench seat with head restraints. A simple maroon steering wheel holds an airbag in the center and leads to a cluster of round gauges on a black background. Delco's finest AM/FM/Cassette radio is housed in the center panel with the digital climate control panel just below. Lots of plastic burlwood to the right and plush red carpet below match the foam backed headliner above, all in great shape. The cavernous trunk is lined in gray cloth which also covers the spare.
Drivetrain
Under the hood you'll find a 5.7 liter L05 V8 rated at 210 horsepower, fuel injected and mated to a 4L60E, GM's ubiquitous 4-speed automatic transmission. Power finds its way to the 10 bolt rear axle with 2.56 gears.
Undercarriage
Surface rust and oxidation abound but conditions are dry and underpinnings solid. A single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and power brakes are configured as front disc and rear drum. Coil springs live at both ends with a 4 link joining in on back.
Drive-Ability
Last of the giant Buicks, this Roadmaster lives up to its name by providing minivan like interior space and a wide, commanding presence on the road. The V8 is up to the task and the suspension helps the car float over road imperfections. The only thing we note is the rear left window jumping off its track, but all other functions in this simple, sizable Buick work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The Roadmaster was the flagship car for Buick at a time, then cars would shrink exponentially in coming years, this car represents a moment in time and still delivers comfort and analog operation that's easy to maintain. Its wheelbase might be a few inches short of true limousines, but backseat occupants are going to feel opulent in the cavernous cabin of this big, maple metallic Roadmaster.
