"1990 Nissan 300ZX Coupe
""This is not the flabby, disco poseur's 300ZX of old. That tawdry beast is gone, laid to rest in a special graveyard reserved for stretch slacks, musk colognes, and slap on chest hair. In its place is a car created by designers who understand design, engineers who grasp the needs and wants of enthusiasts, and, perhaps most important, management with the guts and the savvy not to stand in the way of its creative corps. New from the ground up, the new 300ZX is, quite simply, one of the most alluring cars to appear on the United States market in years."" Car and Driver, August, 1989
For consignment, a 1990 Nissan 300ZX coupe with a title verified 99,600 actual miles. This is a garage kept, one owner car and a beneficiary of a repaint 15 years ago.
Exterior
The Azure Blue paint looks great on the car and the monochromatic coverage creates clean lines on what can be described as a rounded wedge design, a design that will likely still look modern and fresh 20 years from now. Integrated fog lights and side markers flow seamlessly on the badgeless front bumper over an open front spoiler and intake that's aggressive without being over the top. Covered headlights mimic the rake of the windshield, which is sharp, wide, and dramatic. The blue edged T-tops break keep the color flowing right into the hatch where it covers the wide, hinged C-pillars and wingless decklid. Looking at the smooth plexiglass encased tail lights, it's evident that the newest Z-car gained inspiration from this model, because the design is that good. A smooth blue rear bumper cover flows like water, ending to reveal dual exhaust with twin tips on each side. Overall, the exterior is simple with no wasted material, extra vents, or outlandish wings. Clean Japanese design. Imperfections include chin scrapes, bubbling and cracking around a wheel opening, and some curb rash.
Interior
More simplicity and freshness here with shades of blue that begin on door panels constructed of vinyl and cloth and holding the seat belt. Leather sport seats are inviting and show some patina on the driver's side, but are fully intact and the suggested 2+2 rear seats are deep and supportive with some tears in the upper seams. The lower half of the dash, side of center console, armrest, and door cards are lined with a blue knit material, something not seen in many cars. The side pods flanking the steering wheel control things like cruise control, lights, A/C, and wipers and all within a finger's length away. That leaves the center of the dash free of busy buttons and it holds only an AM/FM/CD player and Bose speaker. The shifter accompanies some switches in the center console and presents cleanly as does the plush blue carpet below it. This carpet goes on to cover the rear cargo area in the form of a fitted piece.
Drivetrain
Residing under the hood is a 3.0 liter DOHC V6 rated at 222 horsepower and backed by a Jatco RE3R01A 4-speed automatic transmission sending power, in true sports car style, to the rear axle, this one with 4.083 gears. Power disc brakes occupy each of the four wheels. The bay presents in clean, driver quality condition.
Undercarriage
Clean driver quality conditions also prevail underneath with plenty of surface rust, residual oil on the pan, a thick film on the transmission pan, and some road grime. The dual exhaust runs down the middle of the underside through stock style mufflers before exiting via twin tips on both sides. Macpherson strut suspension is utilized front and rear.
Drive-Ability
After driving a myriad of muscle cars, the cockpit of this car offers a relatively quiet respite but still provides an exciting experience. In true sports car fashion, the ride is more horizontal and the ergonomics are just right. Handling is excellent; the size and weight of the car keep it tossable but also planted. And the icing on this blue cake is that all functions operate as they should! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
In recent years, Z cars have come into their own in terms of appeal and desirability.
