Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is proud to present this 1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS.
The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro helped define American performance throughout the 1980s with its sleek aerodynamic styling, lightweight chassis, and unmistakable road presence. While the RS offered sporty styling from the factory, this 1989 example has been transformed into a thoughtfully built restomod that combines classic third-generation Camaro looks with upgraded V8 performance and modern drivability.
Finished in an attractive maroon exterior over a black vinyl interior, this Camaro has undergone an extensive restoration and performance build. Originally assembled using the body and suspension from a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z and the body panels and compatible components from a 1989 Camaro RS, the project was later taken a step further with the installation of a rebuilt 5.7-liter Chevrolet 357 CID V8. The engine features a 4-bolt main block with a hydraulic cam and lifters, iron heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, custom headers, and a custom exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt Borg-Warner T56 6-speed manual transmission, giving this Camaro an engaging driving experience.
Keeping everything running cool is an upgraded cooling system featuring a Champion aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan, and modified shrouds. The fuel system has also been upgraded with an electric fuel pump, bypass regulator, new dual fuel lines, and a vapor trap system. Handling and stopping power have been improved with four-wheel disc brakes, new suspension bushings, and a Posi-Traction rear differential equipped with 3.73 gears, helping this Camaro put its power to the pavement.
Inside, the cockpit blends classic Camaro styling with desirable upgrades. You'll find comfortable black vinyl seating along with Dakota Digital gauges that provide a clean, modern look while monitoring the engine's vital information. Additional comfort features include working air conditioning and heat, power windows, power door locks, electric hatch release with optional keyed entry, and a Kenwood sound system featuring dual 10-inch subwoofers and a remote control. Completing the exterior appearance are 17-inch custom IROC-style wheels wrapped in newer tires that give this Camaro an aggressive stance.
