"1988 Chevrolet Corvette 35th Anniversary Coupe
""To commemorate the Corvette's 35th anniversary in 1988, Chevrolet produced 2,050 special 35th Anniversary Edition models. These cars featured an all white finish with a white interior, a special identification badge near the shifter, and white color matched alloy wheels. These Corvettes were equipped with a 5.7L V8 engine with a tuned port injection system, paired with an automatic transmission. The 35th Anniversary Edition also included power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, power mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt steering column, and an electronic digital AM/FM/Cassette stereo system."" For consignment, a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette 35th Anniversary coupe with a title verified 25,824 actual miles. In the hierarchy of collectible C4's, this one makes the list along with the Grand Sport, the ZR1, and pace cars.
Exterior
The revolutionary C4 started with recessed marker lights in front and a square tail, eventually leading to a rounded tail and flush marker lights. This one is still true to the earliest C4's and is bathed in the only color available on the 35th Anniversary, Summit White. Hidden headlights, belt line molding in white, and sloping greenhouse rear glass that flows down from the removable targa style translucent roof all work to accentuate the sleek lines. Body matching integrated bumpers bookend the car, aerodynamic straight fiberglass panels include the coveted 35th anniversary badging, and round inset tail lights over dual tipped exhaust highlight the rear of the car. Part of the triple white package includes the 17-inch white wheels, here wrapped in 275/40R17 tires with a late 2021 date code. Imperfections include a few scuffs, minor paint chips, thin paint on the door edge, chin scrapes, and chips near a side vent and this panel appears to have been painted as it exhibits a different shade of white.
Interior
Door panels are constructed of a variety of materials including textured white plastic and vinyl, with black door handle inserts and black carpet panels, speakers embedded on the inner portion. White leather bucket seats have plenty of side supports to hold you in while you're pulling some G's in a curve and hip supporting side bolsters capped by switchgear. The driver's seat shows some wear at the ingress point and the passenger seat is in nice shape. A white leather steering wheel fronts the black instrument cluster which is backlit in a colorful array of digital characters, the best we had in the late 80's and early 90's and no deviation from mere mortal '88 Vettes. In the center stack, the factory AM/FM/Cassette radio and push button A/C panel connected to the center console with a clean shifter and additional seat adjustments along with a 35th anniversary badge and car number, (0794). Black carpet covers the floors, footwells, sidewalls, and cargo area and is in very good condition.
Drivetrain
Conditions are clean under the hood where we find the 5.7 liter LT1 V8, rated at 240 horsepower and mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear axle with 2.59 gears with limited slip.
Undercarriage
The underside checks all the boxes and has minimal surface rust. We find the dual exhaust merging to travel a central tunnel, then split to find original equipment mufflers that emit twin pipes on each side. Power disc brakes are at all four corners and fiberglass transverse leaf springs and aluminum control arms save weight in the suspension construction and keep the front and rear independent.
Drive-Ability
True to its breed, this low mileage Corvette sounds great and provides excellent throttle response and acceleration when asked. Handling is very good and braking is on point, and for some icing on this white cake, all functions onboard operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
What's that saying? The cream always rises to the top. This milk colored beauty stands out amongst C4's and as noted, is one of just 2,050 produced. That makes the new owner an exclusive owner in the world of specialty Corvettes. Lactose intolerant or not, this Vette is one for your winner's circle!
