The 1987 Honda Prelude Si represents a pivotal moment for Honda's iconic sport coupe, bridging the gap between the car's second and third generations. Depending on the exact production month, an '87 model can belong to either the tail end of the sharp, geometric Second Generation (1983-1987) or the launch of the sleeker, technologically advanced Third Generation (1988-1991), which debuted in mid-1987. Introduced in mid-1987 for the subsequent model year, the redesigned third-gen Prelude Si revolutionized the sport compact market with world-first production technology. - Engine: Upgraded to the 2.0-liter B20A5 dual-overhead-cam (DOHC) engine, pushing output up to 135 horsepower. - 4-Wheel Steering (4WS): The standalone flagship feature of this generation was its optional, fully mechanical 4WS system. It steered the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels at high speeds for lane-change stability, and opposite at low speeds for an incredibly tight turning radius. - Design: The hood line was dropped even lower, utilizing high-strength steel pillars that offered near 360-degree visibility, a hallmark praised across old-school Honda communities like Japanese Nostalgic Car. This mostly original car has been a part of the Duncan Imports collection since 2021. The original owner drove the car daily and lovingly took car of his car. The only thing that had to be replaced was the steering rack.
