1987 BUICK REGAL TURBO-T WE4 WO2 1 0F 1547 Frame on restoration Upgraded Turbo Rebuilt Transmission E-85 Upgraded injectors Which delivers us to 1987; the last of the rear-wheel drive Regals, and the only year for our featured WE4 Turbo-T. Little known, low-production, and often misinterpreted, the Turbo-T will most certainly take a back seat to the 20,194 GNs and 547 GNX models on any given day. Not many realize, though, that the WE4 just might be the fastest turbo T-Type Regal on the street. Why? The Turbo-T is actually lighter than its GN brethren, due to several factors. First, the use of aluminum T-Type wheels versus the steel GN wheels means less rotating weight. Also, aluminum bumper braces (trunk label code VD6 and VD7) help shed weight off the nose (the GN contained steel units). Power across the performance board arrived as 245 horses and 355-lbs.ft. of torque, thank you very much. The car's appearance is very GN-like, minus the rear spoiler. T-tops and Astroroof could be ordered, along with the black paint and WO2 Exterior Sport Package (blacked-out trim). Even more interesting are the black bumpers versus chrome; a GN incognito. Ah, but a twist awaits you, as the GN that is not a GN is erased in a flash. A grand total of 1,547 WE4 Turbo-T units left the assembly line, meaning that aside from the GNX, the Turbo-T is one of the rarest turbo Regals to leave the line. The announcement of the model came compliments of a Buick Product bulletin dated November 11, 1986; already well into the model-year production, with a production start date of December 8. Interestingly, just two days prior, a bulletin had been released stating that the WE4 would no longer be available with the WO2 black-out kit trim package.
