"FJ History-
The original FJ series was contracted to Toyota by the US Government in the early 1950s to support military operations in Japan. The design concept of the FJ series was based on the original Willys Jeep – the ""F"" was Toyota's engine designation, the ""J"" represented Jeep. These vehicles were well designed and virtually indestructible. The FJ43 model was produced for only a limited number of markets world-wide through 1984. The ""43"" designated the longer (96"") wheelbase model.
FJ43 A Superb Vehicle-
This 1981 FJ43 is a handsome example of this superb vehicle. The thorough restoration included a careful refinish of Freeborn Red. Other features consist of a full tan canvas top with roll-up side-curtains, dual mirrors, rear mounted spare and barn-door style rear tailgate. The windshield folds flat to the hood and 16"" steel wheels mount beefy Unigrip All-Terrain radials.
All FJ Inside-
The original grey vinyl interior is in outstanding condition, circa 1981. All the instruments are in good operating order, and a premium Pioneer sound system has been installed. Cab window glass is tinted, and it must be noted that there is no A/C or heater. There is seating for four (4) additional passengers in the rear compartment, however there are no cupholders.
Dependable Toyota Power-
The FJ is powered by a Toyota 2F 4.2L OHV straight six that produces 135bhp and 210 lb./ft of torque. It is backed by a wide-ratio 4-speed transmission and manual 2-wheel/4-wheel drive with High/Low transfer case that is paired with AVM manual front hubs. The FJ is equipped with a conventional off-road elliptical leaf spring suspension.
Because of its limited production and larger cabin configuration, the FJ43 has become closely followed by collectors and enthusiasts alike. This one is a classic and may well be the ""Best of the Best"".
