The 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is a highly coveted vintage 4X4, celebrated for its legendary reliability, rugged off-road capability, and timeless utility styling. The 1979 model year holds a special position among collectors because it represents a 'late-model' 40-series that received factory engineering improvements while retaining the classic dashboard configuration. The 1979 model introduced several key updates that improved real-world drivability and aesthetics: - Square Grille Bezel: The iconic front fascia switched from a round bezel to a distinctive square design. - Revised Gear Ratios: United States models changed from a 4.11 to a 3.70 differential ratio to allow for better, quieter highway cruising speeds. - Factory Options: Power steering and under-dash air conditioning became readily available optional features, drastically improving cabin comfort. Purchased new from Autohaus on Edens in Northbrook, IL. This FJ-40 was kept in Northern Wisconsin and used at a lake home during the summer months form 1980-1985. It was placed in storage in 1985 and the fuel tank was drained of fuel, the battery was removed and the FJ was covered with a car cover. It remained in storage until 2011 when the original owner passed away and it was inherited by his daughter. In 2011 it underwent mechanical reconditioning to bring it back to a running vehicle. It remained with the family until 2016 when it was acquired by Duncan Imports and Classics. The miles are represented as 100% accurate.
