The 1978 Subaru DL belongs to the first generation of the Subaru Leone. In the late 1970s US market, Subaru marketed its vehicles simply as 'The Subaru,' using trim levels like DL (DeLux) and GL (Grand Lux) as the actual model names. This vehicle generation cemented Subaru's reputation for quirky engineering and rugged utility, paving the way for the brand's eventual transition to standard all-wheel drive.
