1977 Ford F-250 Pickup " 460 V8 " Factory A/C " California Truck " Documented by Marti Report " A Route 66 Adventure! A classic Ford pickup with desirable factory options, a lifetime of Western history, and a cross-country Route 66 adventure that makes this truck's story every bit as interesting as the truck itself! If you're searching for a classic American pickup that you can actually get out and enjoy, this 1977 Ford F-250 deserves your attention. Whether it's a weekend cruise, a morning coffee gathering, a local car show, or a leisurely road trip along America's historic highways, this is the kind of truck that brings smiles, compliments, and conversations wherever it goes. And this particular F-250 has a wonderful story to tell! California-Born, Big-Block Powered, and Nicely Equipped Built at Ford's San Jose, California assembly plant on May 10, 1977, this F-250 was delivered new through Lutz Ford Sales, Inc. of Palo Alto, California, where it was sold on July 16, 1977. Its accompanying Deluxe Marti Report documents a very appealing factory configuration, beginning with Ford's powerful 460 cubic-inch, four-barrel V8, backed by an automatic transmission and a 3.54-ratio Dana 60 limited-slip rear axle. With a 133-inch wheelbase, 7,900-pound GVW rating, power steering, and Ford's heavy-duty truck engineering, this F-250 was built for serious work while offering a surprising collection of comfort and convenience features. The truck was ordered in the attractive factory combination of Wimbledon White and Bright Red, complemented by a Red Knit Vinyl Custom Bench Seat and the optional Custom Package with Decor Group. Among the noteworthy factory equipment documented by the Marti Report: 460 cubic-inch, four-barrel V8 engine Automatic transmission Dana 60 limited-slip rear axle with 3.54 gearing Factory air conditioning Power steering Factory speed control (cruise control) Deluxe two-tone exterior paint Custom Package with Decor Group Dual fuel tanks (midship and standard tanks) Sliding rear window Tinted glass Bright Western low-profile swing-out mirrors Ammeter and oil pressure gauges Super Cooling Radiator California emissions equipment Tool storage box Locking gas cap and spare tire lock Reduced-noise exhaust system These factory features make this truck particularly appealing to someone who appreciates a classic pickup with the equipment and comfort to enjoy more than just short trips around town. An interesting Marti Report statistic: Of the 1977 F-250 Regular Pickup Trucks, just 86 were produced with this same paint and trim code combination. The report also identifies 279 trucks with these paint codes, adding another interesting detail to its documented factory history. These figures relate to the specified colors and trim rather than the truck's complete combination of options. A Western Truck with a Story Worth Sharing According to our seller, this Ford spent most of its life in the dry Western states, reportedly serving as a farm truck in California's high desert before eventually making its way to the Fort Mohave area near the Arizona"Nevada border. There is even an old bumper sticker referencing Nellis Air Force Base, suggesting another interesting chapter in the truck's past, although that connection has not been independently documented. Our seller purchased the truck in December 2020, and rather than having it transported to Michigan, he decided to do something much more memorable. He flew his father out West, and together they drove this nearly 44-year-old Ford pickup home by way of historic Route 66! And they didn't simply follow the modern interstate highways. Whenever practical, they traveled the original old roads and historic alignments that made Route 66 famous. Over approximately one week, father and son made their way through Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, and St. Louis, enjoying the scenery, history, and adventure that comes with traveling America's most famous highway in an old American pickup. There were a few mechanical adventures along the way, too! As they approached Flagstaff, with snow visible along the roadside, the heater core developed a leak. Repairs were made a few days later in Amarillo, and they continued toward home. The power steering lines were subsequently replaced after arriving in Michigan. From St. Louis, the two made a final push toward Detroit, hoping to complete the journey without subjecting the truck to what might have been its first encounter with Michigan winter driving. It's the kind of experience that creates lasting memories - and gives this truck a history that can't be duplicated simply by restoring another one. Original Character, Attractive Presentation, and Driver-Friendly Upgrades Today, this F-250 retains much of the character that makes these 1970s Ford pickups so desirable. Our seller reports that the truck retains its original body, with the exception of some previous bodywork to the right front fender, believed to have resulted from an encounter with a fence post. The exterior was repainted around 2020 in its original factory Wimbledon White and Bright Red color combination. Its long-term Western history is certainly a desirable characteristic, particularly when compared with similar vintage trucks that spent decades exposed to harsh northern winters. The truck presents as a very attractive, sound classic pickup that is meant to be driven, displayed casually, and enjoyed. It is not represented as a concours-level restoration, and that is part of its appeal.
