1977 Cadillac Eldorado Hardtop For Sale
28,150 Original Miles
* Numbers-Matching 425 V8 * Madeira Maroon * Three Meticulous Owners * Exceptional Originality *
This 1977 Cadillac Eldorado is an exceptionally well-preserved, low-mileage example showing just 28,150 original miles and benefiting from a history of careful ownership and conscientious maintenance.
Finished in its factory-correct Madeira Maroon, Code 79, over a beautiful Claret Edinburgh Cloth and Antique Coated Fabric interior, Trim Code 79B, this Eldorado retains an impressive amount of original equipment, trim, documentation and period character. The Fisher Body tag further identifies AV7 Dual Comfort 50/50 seating and a 10B build date, representing the second week of October 1976.
The mileage is supported by an Ohio title identifying the mileage as actual, while the exceptional condition of the interior, body, underside and surviving original components further reflects the carefully preserved life this Cadillac has enjoyed.
Perhaps just as important is its ownership history. This Eldorado has had only three meticulous owners. The current owner is a retired CPA, Cadillac club member and regular participant in car shows who is exceptionally particular about the way the car is maintained. Whenever service or replacement has been necessary, he has been adamant about using NOS or correct authentic-style replacement components whenever possible, rather than simply installing whatever modern substitute was easiest to obtain.
VIN & Factory Identification
VIN 6L47S7Q131448 decodes as a 1977 Cadillac Eldorado two-door coupe equipped from the factory with the carbureted 425 cubic-inch V8 and assembled in Detroit.
The Fisher Body tag further confirms the Eldorado body style, Claret interior, Madeira Maroon paint, Dual Comfort seating and early October 1976 production.
That combination of VIN, trim-tag information and surviving original components gives this car an unusually complete factory identity.
Numbers-Matching 425 V8
Under the hood is the car's original 425 cubic-inch V8, backed by its original automatic transmission and Cadillac's front-wheel-drive system.
Both major drivetrain components have been documented as numbers matching, with the final six digits of the VIN - 131448 - stamped on both the engine and transmission.
The engine starts easily, idles smoothly, runs cool and provides the effortless torque and relaxed power delivery expected from a full-size Eldorado. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the car has been driven at highway speeds without reported abnormal noises or vibrations.
Recent mechanical attention has included a rebuilt original Quadrajet carburetor, NOS radiator, new master cylinder, engine and suspension components and new Diamondback tires. Air conditioning blows cold, while power steering and power brakes preserve the effortless driving character these Cadillacs were known for.
The emphasis throughout the work has been preservation rather than modification, with particular attention paid to keeping the car mechanically dependable without sacrificing its original character.
Factory Madeira Maroon
The exterior is finished in its factory-correct Madeira Maroon, confirmed by paint code 79 on the body tag. Madeira Maroon was one of Cadillac's available 1977 exterior colors.
The deep maroon finish is complemented by the matching vinyl roof and extensive Cadillac chrome and brightwork.
The body is remarkably solid, including the floors, lower quarter panels, rockers and other areas commonly susceptible to corrosion. The sheet metal is represented as original, and the overall presentation speaks to a car that was preserved rather than repeatedly restored.
Even the glass tells part of the story. The windows retain date codes preceding the car's second-week-of-October 1976 body build date, providing another indication that the glass remains original to the car.
New Diamondback whitewall tires provide the appropriate period appearance while allowing the Eldorado to be comfortably driven and shown.
Outstanding Original Claret Interior
The interior is one of the strongest aspects of the entire car.
Trim code 79B identifies the factory interior as Claret Edinburgh Cloth and Antique Coated Fabric, while the body tag's AV7 designation identifies Cadillac's Dual Comfort 50/50 front seating.
The seating surfaces appear to remain original and show remarkably little wear for a car approaching five decades of age. The dashboard, carpeting, door panels, trim and brightwork have likewise survived exceptionally well.
Unlike many Cadillacs from this period, the dashboard remains free of significant cracking or sun damage, and even the driver's armrest area has escaped much of the deterioration commonly found on these cars.
The car retains its original floor mats as well.
Power equipment includes six-way power seating, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, air conditioning and the many comfort features expected of Cadillac's flagship personal-luxury coupe.
A particularly interesting feature is the car's illuminated-entry system, including lights beneath the exterior door handles, a wonderful period Cadillac detail that is seldom seen highlighted on surviving examples. Cadillac offered an illuminated-entry system during the 1977 model year.
The passenger-side courtesy-light assembly has also recently been replaced, keeping the interior lighting system properly presented.
One item to note is that the passenger-side power door lock does not presently operate properly.
Original Radio & Updated Speakers
The original Cadillac radio has been repaired and retained rather than replaced with an aftermarket head unit, preserving the factory appearance of the dashboard.
New front speakers have been installed, and the audio system has also been upgraded with new Kicker 6x9 speakers. Importantly for the preservation-minded collector, the original speaker covers have been retained and are included in the trunk.
The clock has also been professionally rebuilt and is now functional.
These are exactly the kinds of improvements that characterize this Cadillac: addressing the things that need attention while preserving original equipment and keeping removed factory pieces with the car.
Remarkably Complete Original Trunk
The trunk is another particularly impressive area.
Original cardboard liners remain in place, including pieces that are frequently discarded or damaged over decades of use. Even the very difficult-to-find factory rubber trunk mat remains with the car.
The trunk also houses a full-size spare along with the original stowaway tire and compressor, an additional Quadrajet carburetor, the original speaker covers, original leather key holder, two sets of keys, dealer brochure and service manual.
This level of surviving equipment makes the Eldorado feel unusually complete rather than simply restored to look complete.
Carefully Maintained by a Particular Owner
The current owner approaches the car much more like a caretaker than simply an owner.
As a retired CPA, Cadillac enthusiast, club member and regular car-show participant, he has been exceptionally detail-oriented about maintenance and presentation. His preference has consistently been to locate NOS components or correct authentic replacement parts, even when doing so required more time and expense than installing readily available generic replacements.
That philosophy can be seen throughout the car, from the NOS radiator and rebuilt original Quadrajet to the retained factory radio, original trim pieces, trunk equipment and original components saved whenever something has been upgraded.
It helps explain why this Eldorado still presents as a remarkably cohesive, authentic automobile rather than a low-mileage car that has gradually lost its originality through decades of piecemeal repairs.
With just 28,150 original miles, three careful owners and extensive evidence of preservation, this 1977 Eldorado offers an unusual combination of low mileage, documented originality, factory colors, numbers-matching drivetrain and thoughtful recent servicing.
Its 10B Fisher Body date places body production during the second week of October 1976, making it an early-production example of the 1977 model year.
Much of what makes the car special has survived rather than having to be recreated.
From its numbers-matching 425 V8 and transmission to its factory Madeira Maroon finish, Claret Edinburgh interior, original date-coded glass, outstanding interior, rare illuminated-entry feature, preserved trunk equipment and carefully maintained original accessories, this is the kind of Eldorado that rewards close inspection.
Add the new Diamondback tires, rebuilt Quadrajet, NOS radiator, rebuilt clock, repaired original radio, new speakers, Kicker 6x9s with the original covers retained, new passenger courtesy-light assembly and the meticulous preservation philosophy of its current owner, and the result is an exceptionally complete 1977 Cadillac Eldorado that can be shown, driven and enjoyed while still retaining the originality collectors increasingly appreciate.
