"1976 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
In 1976, the Apple Computer Company was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. The two dollar bill was introduced on Thomas Jefferson's 233rd birthday. The entire country celebrated the Bicentennial, the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the 1976 Corvette saw an 8% increase in horsepower and set new sales records.
For consignment, a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette coupe showing 64,674 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a faulty odometer. This car retains its numbers matching engine that give way to chrome sidepipes that you simply can't miss.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*
Exterior
Single stage Classic White coats the iconic fiberglass and neoprene on this curvaceous classic. The iconic Stingray ""gills"" vent cool air into and out of the engine bay from directly behind the front wheel wells. Brightwork is in good condition and shows up on the door handles, front window reveal, side view mirrors and of course, the amazing side pipes. The long hood leads the way and the nose hovers over an extended lower spoiler while the hidden headlights keep things even more aerodynamic. Behind the body colored removable T-tops are a pair of flying buttress B pillars framing the vertical rear. Updated tail light lenses are augmented with a pinstripe flourish out back and a newer luggage rack has been added. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels complete the profile. Imperfections include some chips, scratches, touched up door edge wear, flex cracks, and some rough surfaces.
Interior
Offering a sharp contrast, Firethorn Red vinyl and some minimal chrome trimmings cover the door panels, both in nice shape. Sleek thin styled high backed vinyl buckets, also in red, present well with some wear on the entry point of the driver's seat, right on the piping. The center console has a nicely padded black armrest and this drives the eye forward to the shifter, hand brake, stat plate, and thumb wheels, all framed in woodgrain. The deep set gauges in the swooping dash are original, and appear as very clean. Next to this driver's panel is a group of 5 instruments to help keep the pulse, and just below the center dash of this car is an AM/FM/CD radio. Behind the seats is the rear storage area covered in red carpeting as are the footwells, and it's deep and clean. Keeping the monochromatic theme, the entire four spoke steering wheel is red, the column is red, and the plastic liners of the T-tops are also red.
Drivetrain
Here we have a clean, numbers matching 350ci L48 V8, rated at 180 horsepower and dressed in a good bit of chrome and red, a nice complement to the car's spec. A 4-barrel carburetor fuels the engine and a TH350 3-speed automatic sets it in motion, turning a driveshaft to the rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. The car has power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning. Polished headers start the parade of exhaust travel.
Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions are found underneath where we note minimal surface rust, so residual oil on the pans, and some rust through on the core support up front. There are also a few spots of flaking rust on the belly pan. The long tube headers split east and west and become sidepipes and power disc brakes are found at each corner. Suspension includes coil springs up front and Corvette's complex system of a frame mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf springs in back. There are no catalytic converters onboard.
Drive-Ability
The 350 comes to life and the side pipes deliver a satisfying song from the brass section of this band, as we circle the test loop with this white Sting Ray. Decent power and of course, exception handling is on tap. Of note, the horn, odometer, and trip odometer are not working. The brake lights illuminate when the car is in reverse in lieu of actual reverse lights. Beyond these things, all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This one catches your eye. Maybe it's the chrome side pipes, maybe it's that aerodynamic chin, or maybe because Corvettes just have the effect on car people. Fifty years after the bicentennial, this is still an exciting design. Exciting enough to turn the heads of non car people!
