"1975 Chevrolet Monza Hatchback
""By 1970s standards, the new Monza 2+2, (the official name for the hatchback), was a sharp looking car, a slick fastback with definite Ferrari overtones. The nose featured quad headlights, two thin slits in place of a traditional grille, and flexible plastic cladding that minimized the visual impact of the 5 mph bumpers. Inside, the Vega based interior received a high class makeover. Dimensionally it was similar to the Ford Mustang II, slightly longer in length and narrower in width. The Monza would stay in the Chevrolet lineup for just six model years, discontinued in 1980 to make way for the Cavalier."" Motor Trend, Oct. 2020
For consignment, a 1975 Chevrolet Monza hatchback showing 3,151 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This clean street machine puts out over 500 horsepower and was featured in All Chevy magazine in 1992, about a year before its repaint.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*
Exterior
A long way from showroom original, this vibrant car has monochromatic orange coverage on the top surfaces and giving way to sweeping silver stripes under which we find red paint, all in nice shape and accentuating the pointed back end, here with an aggressive, integrated spoiler on which the silver tracks. Distinct tail lights top the red coverage in back capped off by massive dual exhaust tips while up front, the big hood snorkel intake rises high to get the most air it can, and a front air dam grabs its share. 15-inch Weld Prostar wheels with deeply staggered width look the part and hood pins keep the louvered lid on over the engine. Imperfections include some minor chips and many are touched up, some light bubbling in the red, and typical chin scrapes.
Interior
Doors that open include stylized gray vinyl door panels with orange bordered silver detail that mirrors the outside design and both doors are in very nice condition. That combination of gray, silver, and orange is transferred to the bucket seats with bold striping and orange racing harnesses tied to an orange roll cage, in keeping with the theme. Up front, a Grant GT steering wheel fronts a custom dashboard replete with more AutoMeter gauges than a speed shop and the silver vinyl dash pad takes in a shift light and a clock and vacuum gauge toward the center, hovering above the orange mid panels that makes for a clean presentation. There are also vent levers and an AM/FM/CD radio, while a Hurst shifter occupies the decorative center console all over a nice gray carpet that covers front and back. Even the headliner is in place, now tucked behind the orange roll cage.
Drivetrain
A show worthy engine bay holds the 427ci V8, complete with a Comp cam, (.568i/578e lift/236i/242e duration @050), Edelbrock aluminum heads, an Edelbrock intake and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, all good for a dyno proven 521.6 horsepower. A Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission is behind it and has a new clutch. Power is routed to the 12 bolt rear axle and 4.56 gears. Custom headers, power steering and power brakes are present.
Undercarriage
Race ready and clean, the beefy underside includes a heavy duty transmission brace, coil spring suspension with a 4 link and 3"" dual exhaust that exit through 4"" pipes after taking in a pair of race mufflers. There are no catalytic converters on board. Power brakes are divided as front disc and rear drums.
Drive-Ability
Quick start, raucous exhaust, and a comfortable interior all begin our journey on the test loop where enormous power is obviously underfoot. We note a miss in the engine but continue our check of functionality. The reverse lights and horn are not working but all other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Many of us have fond memories of the mid 70's Monza which, along with the Buick Skyhawk, were ubiquitous back in the day, so it's nice to see one in any form. Here's a great build that's attractive, clean, and fast while maintaining some retro graphics that just look right on this triple colored winner.
