The 1974 Jaguar E-Type (also known as the XK-E in North America) represents the final full model year of one of history's most iconic sports cars. Belonging to the Series 3 generation (1971--1975), the 1974 model transitioned from a raw, lightweight sports car into a powerful, luxury-oriented grand tourer. By 1974, stricter safety and emissions laws in the United States---Jaguar's primary export market---forced significant design updates: - The Long Wheelbase: Jaguar dropped the short-wheelbase platform. The 1974 models were built exclusively on the longer 105-inch wheelbase, providing more legroom and a more compliant ride. - Body Styles: Available only as an Open Two-Seater (OTS) Roadster. (Production of the fixed-roof 2+2 Coupe wrapped up in late 1973). - Visual Identifiers: Recognized by its large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches to accommodate wider tires, and prominent rear 'V-12' badging. - Impact Bumpers: U.S.-bound 1974 models feature distinctively large, black rubber bumper guards ('overriders') on both the front and rear to comply with 5-mph crash mandates. - Creature Comforts: Equipped with standard power steering, uprated power brakes, and often outfitted with factory air conditioning and chrome center-locking wire wheels. In October 1974, Jaguar built the final 50 'Commemorative Edition' cars to mark the end of E-Type production. All but one were painted black, drawing a curtain on a legendary 14-year production run before the model was succeeded by the Jaguar XJS.
