"1974 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
""Getting to know a Corvette has got to be one of the great pleasures in life. And anyone who truly loves the road and where it goes deserves that pleasure at least once in his life. Or hers. The same people who brought you your Corvette are still running the store and keeping the faith. The '74 isn't a totally new Corvette, just better. Take the styling. We wouldn't just change it for the sake of change. But when we made the rear bumper stronger, we made Corvette's entire rear styling look different. And, we think, better."" Corvettemuseum.org
For consignment, a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 82,909 actual miles. This car has had a frame off restoration but in the past year, has received a new battery, starter, and alternator thanks to the consignor, who has owned the car since 2007. This car retains its numbers matching transmission.
Exterior
A color change repaint in two stage Black coats the outside of this stingray like a sleek, dark knight. The full monochrome coverage is accented with polished rocker panel trim and the only other things that veers from black are the tail lights and a roof rack on the rear decklid. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are wrapped in 255/60R15 tires with a late 2024 date code and present proudly with white letters out, old school style. Body colored T-tops are up top and their center line is matched on the rear fascia, a one year seam that identifies the model year. Imperfections include some scratches, general inclusions, bubbling on the t-tops, hood and roof, chips, crazing, scuffs, a missing marker lens, and area of dulling.
Interior
Saddle brown door panels include polished trim and a configuration that contours to the shape of the car, provide an ergonomic fit, and present cleanly. Saddle leather bucket seats occupy the front and while the driver's side shows a touch of age, they both remain in good shape. Behind them, a sizable JL speaker in the cargo area. A black steering wheel stands out against the tan colored plastic surround of the dashboard but blends with the black faced gauges and busy center stack where you'll find more gauges and an AM/FM/CD player with remote controller. Between the seats is the shifter over tan carpet that's in nice shape. We do note a touch of wear on the dash pad. Tan liners on the T-tops complete the inside palette in fine style.
Drivetrain
Chrome accents brighten the engine bay where a consignor stated crate 350ci V8 resides with a 4-barrel carburetor and mated to its numbers matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. Headers, power brakes and power steering are on board, and although the car came with air conditioning, it was removed in the past.
Undercarriage
Clean and dry conditions are found underneath where the dual exhaust runs through stainless steel mufflers and then exit soon after. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension consists of coil springs up front and half shafts, lateral struts, control arms, and VBP transverse leaf springs.
Drive-Ability
The 350 comes to life without hesitation and we roll this black beauty onto the test loop where the newer tires grip as if on rails and the car tracks straight and true. The race inspired cockpit is a nice place to be and we can imagine with the T-tops stowed, the open air experience would be off the charts with fun. Meanwhile, we note the radio is not working but all other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Just a nice, straight vintage Corvette from the mid-70's in a great color combo and sporting a healthy and shiny 350 V8. This is a timeless design that still turns heads and we suspect still will in the year 2126! Grab a '74 edition of an American icon!
