"1973 Triumph Daytona T100R Motorcycle
""Moto marketers have never been shy about naming their machines for successful racing exploits and their locations. Winning the ""Handlebar Derby"" at the famous Florida course was perhaps the most prestigious victory of them all. So when Triumph racked up three wins in the 1960s with their 500cc Tiger twin, it was only a matter of time before the company capitalized on its successes. In late 1966, Triumph announced a new 500cc street sport bike based on the single carb T100 Tiger but fitted with a new cylinder head featuring shallower valve angles, splayed intake ports to make room for twin Amal Monobloc carburetors."" For consignment, a 1973 Triumph Daytona T100R motorcycle showing 3,720 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is in excellent original and unrestored condition with no modifications but will need some tic before you ride through town.
Exterior
Painted components here are Cherry Red accented by white stripes on the fenders and on the tank, characteristic streaking scallops begin at the Triumph emblem and come to a point at the seat. The single stage paint is in very nice condition as are the tank badges, bordered in chrome. The black vinyl seat has a border as well, this one on the lower edge and this one in gold. Both the headlight and tail light are flanked with marker lights and also reflectors mounted to the side of the bike. Chrome wire wheels, 19-inch front and 18-inch rear, are accompanied by other chrome goodies including the dual exhaust, rear shock coils, upright handlebars, and of course, the headlight housing.
Functionality
Hard rubber grips enjoy the presence of nearby Lucas thumb controls, and each shows a bit of patina. Indicator lights are embedded in the headlight housing just ahead of the tachometer and speedometer, both cleanly designed and easy to read. The gas cap is offset to the right on the tank and fixed foot pegs are down below for a single rider.
Drivetrain
Presenting cleanly is the 490cc parallel twin, rated at 40 horsepower and fueled via dual Amal 1-barrel carburetors. A 4-speed manual transmission transfers power via a chain drive. Brakes are onboard as front disc and rear drum and suspension consists of a telescopic fork in front and swing arm with dual shocks in the back.
When the Daytona was introduced, Cycle magazine wrote, ""Nothing but good may be said of the Daytona as day in, day out sporting transportation. It is a fantastically comfortable bike. Starting is a snap, for it fires very willingly. Add to all that the obvious quality of materials and care in workmanship and you have a lot to like"". Here is an opportunity to secure this race inspired bike, one you've likely coveted since becoming a motorcycle enthusiast!
