Restoration completed in 2023 A Brazilian-built 1972 Volkswagen Bus (known locally as the VW Kombi) is a unique automotive anomaly because it retains the iconic first-generation 'Split-Windshield' (T1) design. While Volkswagen Germany discontinued the T1 split-screen style in 1967 to transition to the 'Bay-Window' (T2) design, the Volkswagen do Brasil factory in Sao Bernardo do Campo continued manufacturing the original T1 body style all the way until 1975. In recent years, 1972 Brazilian Kombis have flooded global markets as highly sought-after import custom projects. Many standard 15-window Brazilian models are completely stripped down and heavily modified into 21 or 23-window 'Samba' replicas. Builders cut the roof to add a panoramic cloth sunroof, pop-out 'Safari' front windows, and custom two-tone leather interiors. 8,780 kilometers
