"1972 Jeep Commando SC2
The Jeepster/Commando model was a compact four-wheel-drive utility vehicle built by Jeep from 1966 to 1973. The 1972 model was rebranded as simply Commando and significant because it was the first year of the redesign from American Motors. As a result, the Commando received a longer wheelbase, updated styling and AMC engine options.
SC2 - Super Commando II Model-
This rugged 1972 Commando is a classic example of this limited-production Jeep. The trim and options on this Commando indicate that it was a SC2 model. The SC2 included a 5.0L AMC engine, 2-speed Dana 20 transfer case power steering, power brakes and SC2 two-tone styling.
The Commando's exterior was refinished in orange with white SC2 factory stripes. The removable white fiberglass hardtop is fitted with sliding glass windows. Factory 15"" steel wheels with full covers complete the distinctive look. The refreshed interior includes tan vinyl upholstery, air conditioning, all-weather carpeting and a factory AM radio.
AMC 304ci Power/Automatic/4WD-
The AMC 304ci V8 was one of the best lightweight, powerful and dependable. Equipped with 2V intake, it was rated at 150bhp and 245 lb/ft of torque. The transmission is a 3-speed automatic that transfers torque to a Dana 20 transfer case with manual locking front hubs. The front differential is a Dana 30 unit and the rear a Dana 44. The solid chassis retains stock front/rear leaf spring suspension, power steering and power 4-wheel drum brakes.
The Jeep Commando remains an interesting and uncommon chapter in Jeep's off-road heritage. It bridged the gap between the early military-derived CJ Jeep and the later, more refined recreational vehicles we now call SUVs. This classic Super Commando II is ready to go on its next adventure.
