This SuperSport was originally built at the Arlington Texas assembly plant before being delivered to Cunningham Chevrolet of Hartsville Tennessee! Notably this car remained under the same care for over 20 years before being sold in 2024 to the prior enthusiast owner we sourced this car from. The body is straight and has good consistent gaps. While the paint is over 15 years old it still shows very well with only a couple minor imperfections. The interior is nice and stock appearing with a majority of the components remaining original and in great condition for their age.Power comes from a date correct L78 396c.i. V8 paired with a date correct (CX) TH400 automatic transmission backed by the (KF) 12-bolt GM Axle spinning 3:55 posi-traction gears. The engine had been rebuilt around 2011 and the engine spec sheet included with the car shows it utilizes a crane hydraulic camshaft. The transmission is said to have been rebuilt a little over 1,000 miles ago. Although we do not have the paperwork, the transmission operates wonderfully. The underside of this Chevy is very impressive. Not only does it boast an original body, but it also retains its original floor pan! All of which is rock solid and free of any rot. If you rub away the undercoating you will reveal the original red oxide primer the Arlington TX built cars were known for! Additionally the frame is clean, and rust free. Overall this is a high-quality driver example of a true Tuxedo Black over black, Arlington built SS car with all the correct SS components. A big block intermediate shaft, front larger sway bar, braced rear to support the 12 bolt, boxed rear trailing arms, correct provisions in the fire wall for the cowl hood, a date correct L78 Drivetrain and a buildsheet! With the L78 only being available for early production there are only 2,144 ever built in comparison to the 4,475 LS6 cars they produced. Just prior to the passing of the matriarch of LaFontaine Automotive Group, Maureen LaFontaine, the building in downtown Milford became available and it was the ideal location to launch LaFontaine Classic Cars. The attention to detail and automotive nostalgia throughout is a tribute to Maureen and her everlasting legacy.
The showroom aims to bring buyers back in time to a more classic feel. In addition to all the vehicles in the showroom, the space is decorated with vintage signs from vehicle brands of the past. Not only are there vehicles in the building, but the parking lot to the south contains many others available for purchase.
Michael Sr. commented, “This area is prefect for us as we have a lot of roots in Milford and absolutely love this quaint downtown. We look forward to welcoming fellow automotive enthusiasts through our showroom doors and they can expect to receive the same Family Deal feeling people have come to expect at any of our other dealerships. LaFontaine Classic Cars acquires vehicles several ways, with a majority of them coming through auction and Michael Sr.’s personal collection.
