Vehicle Description
1969 Pontiac Firebird $54,995
"There's no denying the timeless curb appeal of a sharp-looking classic muscle car, especially when it's wearing a great color and is mechanically well-appointed. That's definitely an apt description for this 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 Convertible. Dressed in a very eye-catching shade of metallic blue, this open-air ride would make an outstanding weekend cruiser and, with just a little work, could even be transformed into a contender on the local car show scene. That appealing paint is paired with brightwork that's in consistently good shape, and this Pontiac's collection of proper 400 badging is securely in place. Featuring consistent body lines, its doors close solidly and, if you look a little closer, you'll see that both its window glass and weatherstripping are in good shape. As a big added plus, that hood-mounted tach you see, which is so often in non-operable shape on classics, is in strong working order.
Inside, you'll find a factory-style interior that may show signs of wear but remains perfectly usable in its current state and could easily be brought up to speed without much trouble. The front bucket seats are structurally sound and still properly aligned, and they straddle the signature wood-accented center console that upper-tier Firebirds were known for. The gauges in the instrument cluster appear to be surprisingly clear, especially given that this is a convertible, and are joined by a trio of aftermarket gauges that sit at the bottom of the dash area, just below a Sony AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary port to add more audio options. While power convertible works as it should.
Propelled by a factory-correct drivetrain that's anchored by a 400 cubic-inch V8, this Pontiac has very solid driving manners. The smooth-running engine appears nice and clean and is dressed up with some sharp chrome accessories. Fed by a Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor perched on an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, it's paired with a 3-speed automatic TH350 that shifts without issue. This Pontiac's power steering shows none of the excessive play you might expect, and its power brakes offer confidence-inspiring stops. Yes, this is a really nice, driving classic, to be sure.
