"1969 Ford Mustang Mach I
1969 was a pretty good year if you liked performance cars, especially Mustangs. You had the option of the GT, Boss 302, Boss 429, Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500, and the Mach I. If we all had a crystal ball back then, we would have picked up one of each and tucked them away in secure storage only to pull them out and sell at the right time, whenever that may be. These cars were priced between $2,700 and about $5,300 which seems like chicken feed today, but $5,300 is equal to $44,800 in today's money, so amassing a collection in 1969 might not have been that easy.
For consignment, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 showing 44,217 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This is an R code 428ci Cobra Jet project that is ready for your skillful hands and imagination. It comes with a long list of parts.
Exterior
All lights and every bit of trim have been removed and what's left is a mostly straight body in primer gray. The hood pins and a shaker ram air scoop are in place. There are areas that still need some standing and a bit of rust on the bumper bracket panel in back. Overall, the iconic shape of the Mach I is fully intact and nearly ready for paint and reassembly. Magnum 500 wheels are in place with 14-inch in front and back with staggered size tires that have a mid 2021 date code.
Interior
The car's original color, Silver Jade Metallic is clearly seen in the gutted interior, now holding numerous parts and a single bucket seat and it's fairly weathered. A three spoke rim blow steering wheel is up front ahead of a gutted dashboard and weathered dash pad. The trunk is also a receptacle for parts.
Drivetrain
A 428ci Cobra Jet V8 is positioned in the engine bay but not complete. From the factory, it was rated at 335 horsepower and fueled through a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a Toploader 4-speed manual transmission with power routed to the Ford 9"" rear, 3.50 gears and Equalock.
Undercarriage
The underside appears solid and the dual exhaust is but not connected to the manifolds. It has an H-pipe and a single, stock style muffler that emits two tailpipes. Power disc brakes and coil springs are up front with power drums and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The engine is merely mocked up in the bay. There are no head gaskets installed, no starter and no clutch.
Just 4,317 R code manual cars were built in 1969 making them rare and desirable. This one was assembled at the Metuchen, New Jersey plant and delivered to the Philadelphia district sales office. No matter where this project ends up, it's going to be a worthwhile project and valuable asset when completed.
