Double R Code | 428CJ | 5 Speed Manual | Currie 9" | Dakota Digital | Air Conditioning | Power Steering | 4 Wheel Disc Brakes | Deluxe Marti ReportLaFontaine Classic Cars is proud to present this exceptional 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 R-Code, a genuine big-block Mustang that started life as a factory-equipped 428 Cobra Jet 4-speed car. Today, it has been meticulously upgraded into a formidable street and show machine while retaining the character and pedigree that make R-Code Mustangs some of the most sought-after muscle cars ever produced. At the heart of this Mach 1 is a 428 Cobra Jet engine built to Super Cobra Jet specifications. The engine features a Sep 26th 1968 date-coded block along with correctly dated cylinder heads cast on 8G10 and 8G13. Under the iconic Cobra valve covers resides a performance-oriented valvetrain featuring billet aluminum roller rockers and a hydraulic roller camshaft. Fuel delivery is handled by a Demon carburetor that has been professionally rebuilt, while a complete MSD ignition system ensures reliable spark and performance throughout the RPM range. An SCJ oil cooler system is in place as well to keep those oil temps down on hot days as well as a 3" Aluminum Radiator and more!Power is routed through a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission, providing excellent drivability and highway cruising capability. A Currie 9-inch rear end equipped with 3.91 posi trac gear that puts the power to the ground with confidence and durability. This Mach 1 sits aggressively on the largest BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires that can be fitted without mini tubs, featuring massive 295/50R15 rear tires and 235/60R15 fronts. The stance is exactly what a big-block Mustang should be; muscular, purposeful, and ready to perform.Inside, the cabin retains its classic Mach 1 character while benefiting from thoughtful upgrades. Mach 1 inspired bucket seats, Power Windows, Heated Seats, Dakota Digital gauges provide modern accuracy and readability, while a RetroSound radio, upgraded door speakers, and enhanced audio system offer modern sound quality without compromising the vintage appearance.Equally impressive is the car's history. This Mach 1 was originally a rust-free California car and benefited from a quality restoration. Documentation includes photographs of some of the early restoration process, providing valuable insight into the workmanship and condition of the vehicle throughout the build. $24,000 + of 2026 rejuvenation receipts are present. The 1969 Mach 1 remains one of the most recognizable and desirable Mustangs ever built, and authentic R-Code examples continue to command strong interest among collectors and enthusiasts. Combining genuine Cobra Jet heritage, Super Cobra Jet-inspired performance, modern drivability, and a rust-free foundation, this Mach 1 represents an outstanding opportunity to own a serious piece of Ford muscle! With a deep passion for all things automotive, LaFontaine Classic Cars celebrates the storied automotive heritage of the Motor City and looks to make the classic car of your dreams a reality.
Founded by Michael LaFontaine Sr. and his two grandsons, Zackary and Mackenzie Hinsperger, LaFontaine Classic Cars offers guests an unmatched offering of iconic classic vehicles – from weekend cruisers to Concours quality show vehicles.
Just prior to the passing of the matriarch of LaFontaine Automotive Group, Maureen LaFontaine, the building in downtown Milford became available and it was the ideal location to launch LaFontaine Classic Cars. The attention to detail and automotive nostalgia throughout is a tribute to Maureen and her everlasting legacy.
The showroom aims to bring buyers back in time to a more classic feel. In addition to all the vehicles in the showroom, the space is decorated with vintage signs from vehicle brands of the past. Not only are there vehicles in the building, but the parking lot to the south contains many others available for purchase.
Michael Sr. commented, “This area is prefect for us as we have a lot of roots in Milford and absolutely love this quaint downtown. We look forward to welcoming fellow automotive enthusiasts through our showroom doors and they can expect to receive the same Family Deal feeling people have come to expect at any of our other dealerships. It’s all about personalizing the experience and having fun at the same time.”
LaFontaine Classic Cars acquires vehicles several ways, with a majority of them coming through auction and Michael Sr.’s personal collection.
The shop is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. More information, including an online listing of vehicles, can be found at lafontaineclassiccars.com.
