"1969 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle Hardtop
""Putting you first keeps us first. Say you set out to build the perfect mid size car. You'd probably come to the same decisions we did for the 1969 Chevelle. In a sense, you did build this car. The features you'll read about in this brochure exist only because someone like you asked for them."" From the 1969 Chevelle sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle hardtop with a title verified 75,266 actual miles. This one presents as an impeccably clean and straight example that's ready for show and go.
Exterior
Beautiful Ermine White paint is augmented by a black side spear that runs end to end on the waist line and visually complements the black vinyl top above. Chrome bumpers also set forth a visual match, this time with the 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels. The polished trim is also very nice beginning with the cowl vent covers on the hood, the cowl trim, window frames, mirrors, door handles, rocker trim, and wheel arch trim, all in great shape. Tail light lenses or what we consider one of the best muscle car rears, look factory fresh and the dual headlights in their individual black bezels are just about flawless. Imperfections are few and include some chips on a rear apron with some light edge surface rust, some rock chips up front, a dab or two of paint run, and scratches in the left quarter window.
Interior
Clean black vinyl door panels have visual interest with horizontal stitched lines and polished trim, and the tall bucket seats include some button ornamentation and bands of weave patterned vinyl and along with the rear bench, are in fantastic condition. Up front, the three spoke steering wheel fronts a clean dash with two main circular gauges including the 120 mph speedometer, various switches, and towards the middle, A/C panel and AM radio. The white glove box contrasts nicely with the black dash pad, bringing the outside palette to the interior. A horseshoe shifter lives on the center console, clean and complete over black carpet and vintage style rubber mats. Our black headliner is in great shape and the trunk is not surprisingly clean, with a cut to fit vinyl mat over a rust free floor.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, the clean parade continues with a 350ci Vortec V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a 200R4 4-speed automatic that sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.36 gears. The car is equipped with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
The clean underside features dual exhaust running through FlowMaster mufflers after an H-pipe, and exiting through straight steel pipes out back. Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in back and brakes are divided as power disc up front and power drum in the back.
Drive-Ability
This clean Chevelle runs as well as it looks, providing plenty of power availability underfoot, straight tracking, and a fantastic exhaust note. It's as if we've been transported to 1969, and that's groovy. Meanwhile, all functional items on the car do what they're supposed to and we reluctantly end our drive and bring it back indoors. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If SS derivatives are not important to you but cleanliness and show quality are, then this white wonder might be the right ride for you. There's no other way to describe it than straight and clean and well sorted. We always say there's no such thing as a flawless car, but this one comes close.
