"1969 Chevrolet Impala Custom Coupe
""Impala was the most popular of the 1969 Chevrolet full size models and second in rank only to Caprice, which was the top of the line. However Impala was by far more popular and sales for the number 2 model line drastically exceeded Caprice. More than one million full sized Impalas were produced in 1969 with five body styles to choose from. 1969chevy.com
For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Impala Custom coupe with a title verified 163,211 actual miles. This car has its numbers matching 350ci under the hood, its original vinyl top, and original interior.
Exterior
This Wilmington, Delaware built Impala is bathed in its original color, here in two stage application of Olympic Gold and looking very athletic in its 18-inch Rev wheels wrapped in low profile 45 series, ZR rated tires in staggered width and with an early 2021 date code. Black side body molding is a nice complement to the black vinyl roof which hugs the curved rear window cleanly and retains its scripted Impala badging. Things are super interesting out back where the decklid contains body lines that form a center valley that tapers to blend with the back of the lid and the chrome bumper is embedded nearly end to end with triple tail light design that is unmistakable. Up front, the wrap-around bumper surrounds the dual headlights that sit in front of the grille design and side markers are positioned on the front and rear fenders. Paint and trim is fantastic and we could find no glaring imperfections.
Interior
Gold on gold! Here we have vinyl door panels with simulated wood inserts and subtle, silver trim with just a touch of patina. The split bench seat in front and full bench in back combine vinyl and cloth and only the driver's side shows any wear at all, and it's minor. The sidewalls in the back and package shelf have also been nicely preserved. So '69 is the gold steering wheel and its faux maple filler with column shift and horizontal dashboard ahead, also touched by wood in the black plastic base, and having all essentials in the viewshed of the driver, including the AM/FM/Cassette player of a more modern vintage. Gold twist style carpet with Impala branded carpeted mats presents well, as does the headliner. We note a few scratches on the glove box, while the trunk is barren and has a vinyl cover.
Drivetrain
Here we have the numbers matching 350ci V8, rated at 255 horsepower and looking very original and driven, fueled by a Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a TH350 3-speed automatic sends power to the 12 bolt axle with 2.73 gears.
Undercarriage
Clean, dry and original looking, the underside sports dual exhaust with mufflers that stand out from the patina'd surfaces, and this Flow FX by Flowmaster unites lead to twin tips out back. Drum brakes are found at all four wheels and suspension is configured as front coil springs and a 3 link with coil springs and a panhard bar out back.
Drive-Ability
Excuse us while we travel back to 1969, a tumultuous time in the country but things were swinging at Chevrolet as the Impala became one of the most popular cars on the road. This 350 could tell some tales, and the short story it shares with us on the test loop proves to be a smooth one, with straight tracking and better than new handling thanks to the tire and wheel set up. With the exception of the clock, all functions afforded the driver and car operate as they should and it's time to subject this '69 to some 21st century marketing to find a new owner. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Americans have a soft spot for these full sized Chevrolets and our record of finding new caretakers for these models proves that out. They sell often and they sell fast. This is a well preserved example with great paint, a clean original interior, and set of wheels that make it an instant head turner.
