1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The 1969 Corvette has made a few notable film appearances. Who could forget the gold convertible that ended up in a lake in 1971's Billy Jack? The original Gone in 60 Seconds, (1974), featured one among the stolen cars. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's opening scene features a '69 coupe in front of the Playboy mansion, not unironically. Finally, 2001's Pootie Tang's most memorable feature might be the '69 Vette.
For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette coupe showing 89,865 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one checks all the boxes for a cool '69 and comes to you with detailed documentation of the engine build and restoration. It retains its numbers matching transmission.
Exterior
Two stage Marlboro Maroon covers this curvaceous Corvette with conviction and objectively, it's a great color! It reflects surrounding light like a disco ball and contrasts key features of the car with clarity, including the legendary side gills and their polished inserts, the finned side pipes, and the contouring chrome bumpers. The 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels look just right with a slight stagger to the tire width, providing a sporty stance. The rear view is considered one of the best Vette tails in their history with flying buttresses creating a cove for the rear window, a smooth and slight lift of the rear wing, and that flat rear fascia with, of course, round tail lights in a set of four. Body colored T-tops sit poised ready to be removed for some Corvette Summer fun and the paint, body, and trim is in excellent shape. Imperfections include an area with inclusions on rear fender, a bubble on the front, off color touched up chips on the door, some chipped fiberglass as the body curves under, and some bubbling on a front fender.
Interior
Sweeping contours greet you on the black door panels which both present cleanly, leading to tall black vinyl bucket seats with rib textured inserts and we have no complaints here either. A three spoke steering wheel fronts two big gauges housed in canted coves and the speedometer notably goes to 160. The cockpit-like center stack displays five gauges and a period AM/FM radio over the triple light indicator panel with some of the silver writing showing some typical fading. From there, the thumb wheel vent controls and a polished ball shifter and epic spec plate and additional indicator lights, all in very good condition. Black looped carpet is clean and flows all the way back to the cargo area while black vinyl dresses the T-tops and surrounding headliner. All super clean and show worthy.
Drivetrain
The bay is clean with some driver quality elements like surface rust on the master cylinder, but certainly worthy of popping the hood at the next car show! Here we have a 350ci V8 from 1978 with GMPP aluminum heads and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission which routes power to the rear axle housing 3.36 gears and Positraction.
Undercarriage
With a uniform coat of black, the underside presents cleanly and features dual exhaust coming from headers, then turning east and west to exit as side pipes. Disc brakes are at all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs up front and a frame anchored differential unit, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods and transverse leaf springs out back.
Drive-Ability
Side pipes are good for at least two things; looking great and sounding great, and our examples do just that as we prime the pump and turn the key. Wide and low, this Stingray glides onto the black top and demonstrates good power, shifting, and throttle response. Of course, it handles like a train on rails and braking is on point. We note the horn, radio, and heater blower are not working but all other functional items work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
There are very few of us who don't have these early C3's on our list of all time favorite cars. Before the 70's applied a rear naked choke with emissions, stout street machines like this one were roaming the streets, waiting for their next victim. This is a very nice example in a color we don't see often. Cast your line for this Stingray and let it slide into your garage!
