The 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS Tribute is a stunning example of classic muscle car styling combined with a serious big-block performance build. Finished in Fathom Green, this Chevelle carries the unmistakable look of a late-1960s Super Sport, complete with SS 396 badging, a blacked-out rear panel, and an aggressive stance. A frame-off restoration provides the foundation, while the extensive mechanical upgrades make this much more than a cosmetic cruiser.
Under the hood is a professionally built 468ci big-block V8 from Staley Performance Engines. The engine has been bored .030-over and equipped with Richard Petty cylinder heads, Keith Black pistons, a Weiand high-rise intake manifold, and a Holley Sniper electronic fuel-injection system. Long-tube Hooker headers feed a full dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and polished chrome tips, while an upgraded MSD digital ignition system and MSD distributor help provide dependable spark. Chrome accessories including the alternator, power-steering pump, and master cylinder/booster add to the detailed engine compartment, along with Moroso valve covers and billet spark plug holders.
Power is sent through a Turbo 400 automatic transmission featuring a chrome transmission/inspection shield and ribbed aluminum transmission pan. Out back, the Chevelle utilizes a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.08 gearing and an upgraded differential carrier. The rear axle has received new pinion and carrier seals, while a new speedometer gear adds to the extensive mechanical refurbishment. A replacement fuel tank and new fuel lines round out the fuel system, giving this big-block Chevelle the supporting hardware necessary for confident cruising.
The chassis has received extensive attention as well. The suspension has been rebuilt with tubular control arms, new shocks, new springs, big-block rear springs, and fresh suspension bushings. Updated steering components and new front sway-bar end links further improve the driving experience. Braking is handled by front disc brakes and completely rebuilt rear drums, backed by a new brake master cylinder. The 17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels are wrapped in Nitto radial tires, giving the Chevelle a muscular stance while providing a modern touch to its classic appearance.
Inside and out, this Malibu has been assembled with the character of a period-correct muscle car while incorporating thoughtful upgrades throughout. The Fathom Green finish, blacked-out SS rear panel, SS badging, chrome trim, and Torque Thrust II wheels give it an unmistakable presence.
