*1969 Chevrolet Camaro COPO 427/425*In the 1960s and 1970s, Chevrolet had specific rules for which engines could go in which cars. In 1969, when Chevrolet had a potent 427ci V8 on offer for the full size cars and Corvette, it was the rule that no engine larger than 400 ci could be fitted in a Camaro. But, some cunning Chevrolet dealers found a work around that became one of the most famous acronyms in automotive history. Instead of going through traditional channels to order new cars, for a few one offs, you could specify exactly what you wanted through a Central Office Purchase Order or as it became known - COPO. This process was more intended for fleet sales and speccing trucks to meet certain, edge case requirements, but ended up creating some of the all-time best factory produced hot rods. This 1969 Camaro is one of the few performance-oriented COPO cars produced, and was sold new through Belmont Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Weston, Ontario. The GM Canada paperwork on file confirms it as a true COPO and that it came from the factory with a 427ci V8, backed by a TH400 automatic gearbox. The car is finished in Cortez Silver, and makes subtle hints at what sits beneath the hood thanks to a factory cowl induction hood, optional bright accent mouldings and front and rear spoilers. Like many of these special order cars, this Camaro sits on a set of body-color matched steel wheels, with dog-dish hubcaps in the center, and a set of redline Firestone Super Sport tires. The interior was also special ordered in black vinyl with bucket seats in front with a console running between them to a rear bench seat. A rare wood-applique package was also selected on this car, with simulated wood trim on the dashboard, steering wheel center and center console. An AM radio was fitted from the factory, and a gauge pod sits below the radio with additional information about the cars status.Under the hood is really what makes this car special - a period replacement 427ci V8, topped with a Holley 4bbl carburetor and aluminum intake. From the factory, this powerplant was rated at a stout 425 horsepower and a mind blowing 460 lb-ft of torque. The car sounds incredible thanks to optional chambered exhaust, and stays nice and cool thanks to the Harrison HD 4-core radiator. Power is then sent through a TH400 3-speed automatic to the rear wheels via a 12-Bolt Positraction rear end. Heavy duty springs were ordered around the car, along with power disc brakes. As with most of the COPO cars, this Camaro was campaigned in 1969 and 1970, in drag racing around the Toronto area, with a time slip showing a mile in an astonishing 11.96 seconds at 116 mph. As it sits today, the car is in very good condition and features ample documentation proving its legitimacy as a COPO Carmaro. The Chevrolet collector and muscle car enthusiast know that to get immediate respect at any car show you attend, mention the four letters COPO and everyone will be wanting to talk about your car.*Key Features* * Ultra-Rare Central Office Purchase Order (COPO) With Documentation * Original MSRP * GM Canada Paperwork * 427 ci V8 * 425 Horsepower/460 Lb-Ft of Torque * Aluminum Intake * Holley Carburetor * TH400 Automatic Gearbox * 12-Bolt Rear End * PosiTraction * Heavy Duty Suspension * Power Disc Brakes * 4-Core Radiator * Chambered Exhaust * Factory Spoilers * Wood Veneer Interior TrimFor more information on this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro COPO or any of our High-Performance, Luxury, Exotic, Classic, and Special Interest cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
