1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible For Sale - One Of Only 182 Painted Factory Wimbledon White Paint LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible A pinnacle of late-1960s American performance and one of the most desirable Shelby Mustangs ever produced, the 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible represents the ultimate evolution of Carroll Shelby’s collaboration with Ford. “KR,” standing for “King of the Road,” was introduced mid-year to designate the newly developed 428 Cobra Jet engine—an underrated powerhouse that delivered immense torque and performance, cementing the GT500KR’s reputation as one of the most formidable muscle cars of its era. With just 581 GT500KR Convertibles produced, and only 182 finished in factory Wimbledon White, this example represents an exceptionally rare and highly collectible specification among Shelby enthusiasts. Built on July 26th, 1968, this GT500KR left the factory powered by the desirable just released R-Code 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet V8 engine, paired with a C-6 automatic transmission and a 3.50 Traction-Lok rear axle, delivering the kind of effortless, torque-rich performance that defined the “King of the Road.” Finished in its factory original Wimbledon White paint over a Black vinyl bucket seat interior, the car presents a timeless and purposeful appearance, further complemented by a Black power convertible top with desirable glass backlite. Factory equipped with an impressive list of options, this Shelby features power steering, power front disc brakes, and the unique tilt-away steering column, enhancing both drivability and driver comfort. The GT Equipment Group and Interior Décor Group further elevate the car’s styling and interior appointments, while an AM radio provides a period-correct driving experience. This example is listed in the Shelby Registry and is documented with its original build sheet and Marti Report, affirming its authenticity and pedigree. It is also complete with its owner’s manuals, adding to its overall desirability for collectors. Combining rare production numbers, highly sought-after factory specifications, and documented provenance, this 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic and collectible American muscle cars of the era. -
