Cruisin Classics is proud to present this simply stunning 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible. This Mustang underwent an extensive restoration about 10 years ago that included new paint, suspension improvements, a full engine rebuild, a new Tremec 5-speed transmission, and a new interior (we have a folder of receipts for the work done). The odometer reads only 2,987 miles and we believe that's how many miles it's been driven since restoration. With so few miles, it's not surprising that it looks, runs, and drives like it was just done. This Pony comes to us with a copy of it's Marti Report, which tells us that it was built at the Metuchen plant on 12/4/1967 as a C-code 289 2V car with a C-4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission, a black power top, power steering, AM radio, black standard bucket seat interior, and Highland Green paint (the same color as Steve McQueen's Bullitt car!). Let's take a closer look at this Mustang to see what's changed and what hasn't since it rolled of the line in New Jersey back in 1968...
This Mustang comes to us dressed in an exceptionally nice coat of Highland Green paint with only a few minor touchups – we would put it in the high driver quality category. Up front, sporty hood vents do double duty with hidden turn signal indicators for the driver. Below, bright chrome trim frames a black eggcrate grille that's flanked by bucketed headlights. A gleaming chrome bumper lies beneath. As you move around to the side of the car, the power-operated black convertible top comes into view – and it looks fantastic. The top looks like brand new, features a clear plastic rear window, and operates just as it should. Bright trim elements pop in the light, like the windshield surround, window trim, convertible top surround, door handles, and a rectangular drivers side mirror. The fenders both wear ""Mustang"" script badges and ""running pony with red, white, and blue stripes"" badges, all in great condition. This Mustang rides atop a set of 15"" Argent and chrome 5-spoke wheels all wrapped in newer BF Goodrich Radial T/A's (2024) – a great look. The rear of the car features the iconic Mustang triple-taillights with bright trim, MUSTANG decklid lettering, another chrome bumper, chrome-ringed reverse lights on the lower valence, and a bright chrome GT gas cap at the center. Peaking out from underneath are a set of down-turned chrome exhaust tips. Take a look underneath the car to find a newer gas tank, a set of Thrush mufflers, and newer suspension components like adjustable shackles, leaf springs, bushings, and u-bolts.
Under the hood is a clean black engine bay that you'll be proud to show off at any car show. At the center is a Ford 289 V-8 that appears to be era correct (C6AE-6015-G 7J28). The engine was rebuilt completely by Hausfeld Classics in Springboro Ohio in 2016. The extensive work included resurfacing the block, decking the heads for raised compression, drilling the block for updated cooling passages, boring and honing the cylinders, and adding forged pistons, a double roller timing chain, a hydraulic roller camshaft, hydraulic roller lifters, new harmonic balancer, and new main & rod bearings. The block was then topped off with RPM aluminum heads, finned aluminum valve covers, an Edelbrock RPM intake, a Holley Brawler carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner. That's not all though, there's also an HEI distributor, a high-volume oil pump, a new water pump, new fuel pump, a Powermaster alternator, power steering, Ford Racing plug wires, and an Autolite battery cover. This aggressive V-8 is now mated up to a new Tremec 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a Ford 9"" rear axle with open gears – perfect for freeway cruisin'. Stopping power comes courtesy of power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust flows through Hedman headers and Thrush mufflers before exiting the tips with an awesome growl that's fitting for such a car. Other highlights under the hood include shock tower supports and a Monte Carlo bar.
The all-black interior of this Mustang is in keeping with the high level of quality exhibited by the exterior and engine bay – it's impressive to say the least. The black vinyl door panels feature bright trim, armrests, and cool fold-down door handles. A bright Ford sill plate and fresh black hook & loop carpet welcome you inside for a comfortable seat in one of the front buckets. Up front are new Procar seats dressed in black vinyl and in the rear is a re-covered bench dressed to match. The seats are all in like-new condition with no demerits. The front seats are outfitted with wide racing-style lap belts. Between the front seats is an aftermarket armrest/storage box console with cupholders. Ahead of that, rising from the floor, is a dog-leg shifter for the 5-speed manual with a black boot and black pattern knob. The driver is treated to a black leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel with a working horn on a tilt column. The black dashpad ahead appears to be new and it's loaded with newer aftermarket analog gauges ringed with bright trim. There are gauges for oil, fuel, and water temp as well as a 140mph speedometer and an 8K tachometer. Above the gauges on the dash is a slider control for the working wipers. To the left of the gauges are controls for the heater and fan. Under the dash to the drivers right is the control for the power convertible top. In the center of the dash is a Custom Autosound AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo that plays your favorite tunes through Custom Autosound speakers set in aftermarket kick panels. While you're looking down at the kick panels, check out the chrome-trimmed pedals – yet another nice touch. Ahead of the front passenger is a Mustang badge that hovers above a glovebox which contains a reproduction owners manual. Back in the trunk is a carpeted logo mat, a new black vinyl boot cover still in the box, and the aforementioned folder of restoration receipts.
If you're on the hunt for a top-tier first-gen Mustang convertible, stop looking – you just found your dream car! This is a first-class restoration that not only looks great, but also runs and drives exceptionally well. The rebuilt 289 and the 5-speed Tremec provide the driver with an exhilerating driving experience while the interior offers comfort and style! Don't let someone else snatch this beauty up first, give our staff a call today and make it your own!

Here at Cruisin Classics, we understand that you have many options when choosing where you purchase your classic, muscle or collector car and we would like to thank you for considering us.
Cruisin Classics has been buying and selling cars for many years.. The majority were your average daily drivers but our passion has always been in muscle cars and hot rods so in 1996, Cruisin Classics built a 56,000 sq.ft. showroom located in Columbus, OH that they still operate out of today. All of our vehicles are hand-picked and selected to ensure they fit our inventory. This facility is now arguably one of the best-stocked collections for sale in the US housing hundreds of unique automobiles all under one roof. We invite you to our facility! There is something for everybody when you come to visit.
After years of serving as central Ohio's premiere classic car dealer at Cruisin Classics Auto Sales, we saw an unfulfilled need that was not being met for our clients. We loved helping match our clients with the classic and American muscle cars of their dreams. But what about after the purchase? We recognized that our clients needed a trusted resource to continue to care for their classic vehicles. It did not sit well with us that our valued clients and their incredible vehicles were being outsourced to, sometimes several, third-party resources for maintenance and performance needs. We also wanted to help the many people that we had met over the years who already owned classic vehicles which were in need of restoration, upgrades, and maintenance. Too often, we were seeing vehicles with so much potential left sitting in garages under covers because their owners did not know who to turn to for such specialized work. It is our goal to offer our clients a truly comprehensive, seamless, and enjoyable classic car ownership experience, from purchase to maintenance to storage. Thus, Cruisin Classics Performance Center was born. We have cherry-picked the most talented, experienced, and passionate team of technicians to offer our clients a true one-stop-shop solution for any and all of their classic car needs. Our honest business model has lasted almost 25 years to date and Cruisin Classics has a worldwide reputation as one of the best in the business.
Outside of the shop, this business has afforded us the opportunity to be actively involved in our community and fulfill our goal of supporting several local and national organizations that hold a special place in our hearts. We are proud sponsors of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, the Columbus USO, Honor Flight, Special Olympics, multiple car clubs, and much more.
In conclusion, 100% customer satisfaction is our main goal. Always has been.. always will be. We would like to invite anyone considering one of our vehicles to come to our beautiful facility to inspect the car in person or send somebody on your behalf.
