This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro combines Rally Sport and Super Sport equipment with classic small block Chevrolet power and an automatic transmission. This car is currently finished in Red with White accent striping and features the distinctive RS hideaway headlight system, below bumper reverse lights, an SS hood, and Super Sport badging.
Under the hood is a V8 believed to have been rebuilt to 350 cubic inches during the car’s restoration. The engine utilizes a period correct 1968 Chevrolet block stamped V1228ME, a code originally associated with a 327 ci application. A partial VIN stamped on the engine does not correspond with the Camaro’s VIN, so the engine is not represented as numbers matching. It is paired with a TH350 3 speed automatic transmission.
Underneath, the Camaro is equipped with a 12 bolt rear differential and 5 leaf rear spring packs. These components, together with the extensive Rally Sport and Super Sport equipment present on the car, are consistent with the performance oriented configuration represented today. In the absence of original factory documentation, however, the RS/SS status is not represented as definitively documented.
The VIN, 124378N328073, identifies the car as a 1968 Norwood built V8 Camaro Sport Coupe.Its Fisher Body trim tag further reveals an interesting original appearance: code Y2 Butternut Yellow with a Black vinyl top and code 714 Black bucket seat interior.
Today, the Camaro presents in a much different Red and White color combination while retaining the unmistakable first generation Camaro profile. Its hideaway headlights, SS hood, 12 bolt rear, multi leaf suspension, bucket seat interior, and small block V8 make for a well equipped example with many of the features enthusiasts look for in a 1968 Camaro.
