""Following the Mustang's super successful launch in 1964, Ford went on to sell the model in huge numbers throughout 1965 and 1966. Although tweaks were constantly being made to the pony car since its inception, 1967 was the first real redesign, and many notable differences were introduced for the first time. Cosmetically, the biggest changes were a larger front grille, twin side scoops, (more pronounced than the previous design), and a deep concave rear panel. For consignment, a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible showing 9,564 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one was the subject of a nut and bolt restoration, and the transmission was rebuilt less than 100 miles ago according to our consignor.
Exterior
Two stage Vintage Burgundy paint covers this car, bouncing the light in an attempt to match the shine of the very nice metal work that also adorns the car. Then there are the field marks that make this a '67; the twin ornamental side ducts, the inwardly curved latch panel and contouring tail lights, and the more prominent grille with of course, the running horse in a corral. The headlight coves lose the ridges featured all the way up to '66 for a smooth and clean presentation and 15-inch Scott Drake wheels carry letters out 225/60R15 tires with a mid 2020 date code. The newer black canvas top is in great condition, and the rear window is crystal clear. Imperfections are few and include some minor inclusions, a few chips, a gap issue on the trunk lid, orange peel, minor scratches, and a spot of clear run.
Interior
Black vinyl with polished trim lines make up the handsome door panels which present in very nice shape, lending their colors to the low back bucket seats in front and rear bench, all in immaculate condition. So is the steering wheel that fronts a dashboard that houses five gauges in a symmetrical pattern in textured black plastic that drops down on the left to house the vent levers and continues cleanly right to cover the glove box. In between is an AM/FM radio hovering four circular vents. The transmission tunnel carries the classic Ford T-shifter on the floor over black carpet that blankets the floor and is in nice condition and protected by Mustang branded carpeted mats. A plaid vinyl mat covers the trunk floor and the spare tire in back for a clean presentation over a rust free floor.
Drivetrain
The engine bay continues the clean parade with an original minded presentation of the 289ci V8 with a new 2-barrel carburetor and 200 horsepower rating. It's connected to the rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 8"" rear with 2.79 gears. The car is equipped with power brakes, power steering and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
Past floorboard weld repairs and some scuffs on the oil pan are the only things veering from a nearly flawless underside. Its backdrop is uniformly red primer underneath with clean components that include the dual exhaust, its FlowMaster mufflers, and quad tipped and polished exit. Power brakes are on board as front disc and rear drum and suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
We take this show worthy Mustang around the test loop to see if it runs as well as it looks and we were not disappointed. It sounds great, has good power, and tracks and handles well. The only thing not working is the reverse lights and we happen to note the leaf spring clamps are loose. Beyond these things, all functions operate as they should and we return it to the showroom where it will surely reflect the overhead lights like a vat of wet paint. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
