"1967 Ford Mustang Convertible
This may be the most iconic American car to ever be produced. That's up for debate, of course, as one could argue the Model A, the Corvette, or any number of cars had an equally or more impactful effect on the country. Considering how many generations and changes the Mustang has witnessed, 1967 represents the first time Ford boldly moved forward to make some significant design changes and even offered engine options for the first time. This was a bold move because the first generation sales were strong; don't mess with perfection. But they did and it just kept getting better.
For consignment, a 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible with a 75,412miles showing on the odometer, however these cannot be verified as actual due to the odometer running backwards. Newer tires, newer carpet, and newer exhaust are just some of the ingredients that make this a sweet dish you're going to want to spoon with!
Exterior
A fresh coat of Springtime Yellow arrives just in time for summer on this top down version of America's favorite pony car and the black rocker stripe combined with the canvas top makes for a handsome package. Magnum 500's are a great option for the wheels, here are staggered 14-inch fronts and 15-inch rears creating a strong stance with fatter tires in the back and a set of rubber dated mid 2023. For a bump in aggression, there's a front air dam added to the stang's familiar face while out back, it's picture perfect standard fare with the model's iconic three part tail lights. New for 1967 quarter ducts add a straked, recessed detail inside the cove of a C-shaped body line while the front fenders carry the horse over 289, and MUSTANG. Imperfections here involve only the canvas top which has some age, a tear, and the plastic window is hazy.
Interior
Black is the theme on the inside where vinyl cards are inserted into plastic door panels, artfully designed and representing 60's trends very well, and done so cleanly. Low back bucket seats are also in black vinyl, while the back seats show a bit of patina as do the sidewalls and ashtrays. Back up front, a glossy black steering wheel frames a sporty dash with chrome rimmed gauges arranged in a symmetrical pattern where small circles fill the gaps between the two main gauges, and all are in great shape. In the center, an AM/FM radio is well within reach of both front occupants and a tall Hurst shifter rises from the floor that is neatly covered in newer black loop carpet. The trunk is barren, painted, and spotless.
Drivetrain
Show quality awaits under the hood where a 289ci V8 resides and its black Ford racing valve cover with red lettering nicely matches the distributor cap and wires. The super clean powerplant wears a 4-barrel carburetor and is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission that routes power to the Ford 8"" rear. Drum brakes occupy each of the four wheels.
Undercarriage
Our consignor states the car was coated with cosmoline some time ago, and much of it persists, preventing rust and corrosion on the underside and still appearing wet. As such, there's some, but not much surface rust underneath and otherwise dry conditions. The newer dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers before exiting discreetly under the car through straight pipes. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
The 289 comes to life without fuss, and we row the gears to roll this yellow horse onto the test loop. It has good power underfoot, and we first note that second gear is tough to engage. Be that as it may, the car trots to third gear without issue and provides a ride that tracks straight and with this fresh set of meats, holds the road well around turns. And speaking of turns, the horn tends to blow when we turn the wheel, but will not respond to prompts when pressed normally. The speedometer is not working and the odometer runs backwards. Beyond these things, all functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Once a legend, always a legend and classic Mustangs will never cease to be celebrated, revered, and just plain cool. This is a fine example, straight and mostly original, an ideal car for someone new to the hobby or who has a stable full of Mustangs. It doesn't have to be spring to enjoy the Springtime Yellow and top down excitement of a convertible classic Mustang!
