"1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible
""Here's another legitimate reason for making up errands to run. Or for taking a Sunday afternoon drive on a Wednesday night. We think it has something to do with the way the wind whistles at you when the top's rolled back. The way the world sounds closer. Looks bigger, brighter. That's life in this one. Sunnyside up."" From the 1967 Chevrolet sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Impala convertible showing 79,528 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This car illustrates what can happen when some love and restoration are applied to a one time barn find. This era Impala are generally quick sellers here at the mall, especially soft tops, so put your Evelyn Wood training to work here, then give us a call!
Exterior
Fifteen color options were available in 1967 and this one wears its original Marina Blue but now with two stage application. This is a big car so we're not sure how many quarts went into painting it, but it creates a stunning presence that's light enough to accentuate the subtle body lines and dark enough to allow polished trim and chrome accents to really pop. That top is dark blue and its plastic window is clear while at the other end, original style wheel coverings that dress the 14-inch wheels look great and are wrapped in 70 series tires. Imperfections include a missing side mirror glass, inclusions, cracking and bubbling throughout and paint especially on horizontal surfaces, deplating chrome, scratches in the chrome, sap-like deposits, some bunching and loose glue of the soft top at the A-pillar, pitting in some of the metalwork including door handles and tail light housing, scratches, chips, a dent on grille trim, gap issues at trunk, heavy filler application at the bottom of the passenger's front fender, rocker repair, and cracking filler.
Interior
Nice color coordination is found with Bright Blue interior beginning on the door panels with patterned vinyl, silver trim and a dark blue carpeted footer and both appear fresh. The front split bench and rear bench are constructed of blue vinyl and are clean. The 3 spoke steering wheel has a crack but otherwise nice, leading to the dash where symmetrically arranged gauges and indicator lights provide pertinent information including the time. Further over, we have the vent controls and a newer AM/FM radio along with a separate 8-track player, along with an added triple pack gauge pod. A dark blue dash pad looms over the entire width and blue loop carpet covers the floor. In the trunk, the vinyl mat shows usage and covers some pitted surface rust on the stamped steel floor.
Drivetrain
Our consignor states we're looking at a crate engine, and it's a 350ci V8 with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and GMPP intake manifold. It's backed by a 2-speed automatic Powerglide transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle.
Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions prevail underneath with oxidation, surface rust, oil film on the pans, and one spot of rust through on a rear body brace. The Pypes dual exhaust meet at an X-pipe then find mufflers before exiting through steel pipes out back. Front end parts, suspension and brakes were updated in 2024 and you can see the contrast of new components underneath. Drum brakes are at all four corners and suspension includes newer coil springs at both ends with a 3 link and a panhard bar out back.
Drive-Ability
Roomy and comfortable, the big Impala is like a big blue sled that we're ready to try! It skims across the test loop in fine style, tracking straight, braking well, and providing plenty of power. We note the tail lights and brake lights, clock, and horn are not working, but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Take note, Chevrolet touted the size of the car back in the day, ""Heavy, the way most people want an Impala. Nearly two tons. Body by Fisher and over six and one half feet wide and 17 and one half feet long."". Here's a car not for the concours field, but for driving and enjoying, that's big fun! Measure your garage and dig out your 8-track collection! Every night is cruise night!
