1967 Chevrolet C10 Custom Long Bed Pickup
The 1967 Chevrolet sales brochure for their pickup trucks is as much a work of art as the trucks are a study in design, simplicity, and utility. There are no photographs in the catalog, only full color renderings, paintings really, of the various pickup models and their specifications. You've got a blue Fleetside at the feed and grain store, a Fleetwood custom in an equestrian setting, a Stepside on the streets of San Francisco with a bed full of newspapers, and a four wheel drive version on some mountain terrain. If we were to repaint the brochure today, these trucks would surely be set in car shows, cruise ins, and even Cars and Coffee!
For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet C10 Custom long bed pickup truck with a title verified 111,724 actual miles. This is a one family truck since new and received some custom touches early on, garage kept since at least 1990.
Exterior
The Steel Blue metallic is clean and unassuming on this classic truck and when the original owner added an 8 foot bed, he also added a wider polished trim piece that encircles the truck, swooping over the wheel arches and riding along the tailgate. That certainly adds to the profile of the truck but maybe not as much as the matching stakes fencing in the bed. Add those wide trailer mirrors and you've got a poster truck for working life on a farm, just as it would look on day one. Even the wheel covers and white wall tires scream salt of the earth and are wonderful in their simplicity. That fascia is one of the most desired in the collector car world as vintage pickup trucks are hot, hot, hot, as Buster Poindexter might say. Imperfections on this beauty include some inclusions in the paint throughout, a few chips, some off color touched up scratches, scuffs on the top of the tailgate, scuffs on the rocker panel, and a ding on the trim. The bed is painted rough coat black and is clean.
Interior
Blue velour door panels framed by body colored steel create attractive inner doors and both are in great shape. Inside, the material is used to cover the bench seat in conjunction with grain vinyl surroundings. We retain the blue theme with the 3 spoke steering wheel, skinny by today's standards but perfectly classic and fronting a simple instrument cluster contained in black plastic housing. Simplicity reigns in the center stack too with an AM radio and minimal vent levers leading finally to a large glove box to the right, all topped by a dash pad cover, in blue, naturally. And yes, it's hiding a crack in the pad. Blue carpet floods the floor and painted stamped steel is above our heads, along with the sun visors.
Drivetrain
Clean and driver quality, here we have a date correct 283ci V8, producing 195 horsepower and fueled via a 2-barrel carburetor. t's mated to a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive and power is routed to the 12 bolt rear axle with 4.11 gears and Positraction.
Undercarriage
Driver quality under here as well with some typical surface rust and oxidation and a good deal of oil coating the pan and transmission with some evident on the rear differential as well. We also note more severe rust on the body bracing rails and bushing mounts. Finally, there is sludge build up on the inner wheels. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and dual exhaust travels through Turbo mufflers just before turning east and west and exiting sideways but terminating under the truck. Coil spring suspension is utilized front and rear with swing arms in back.
Drive-Ability
This pick up that no doubt gave countless hours of pleasure to its owner still runs and drives well with a bellowing exhaust within earshot, straight tracking, and smooth traveling over our less than perfect test loop. Keeping things simple has its advantages, namely, less to go wrong, and all functional items afforded the driver operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Classic pickups, especially this particular generation, have a proclivity for finding a new home fairly quickly. We can see this one on a postcard, in the fall with pumpkins on maybe as the backdrop for your family's annual Christmas card. It's about as American as you can get, and that's how we like it, and we're not alone!
