Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you this rare 1966 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon outfitted from factory with a 421ci tri-power V-8. This uniquely equipped wagon comes with PHS documents that back up the special features it possesses. With a couple notable exceptions, this Catalina appears to be a real survivor car with only 79,987 miles on the odometer – very cool! Though this car is very highly optioned, quite a few of those options no longer work. Our Performance Center is simply too busy right now to take on another project, so we are offering this Catalina as a running, driving project at a cost that reflects it's current situation. Let's dig a little deeper into this very special wagon...
This '66 Catalina wagon comes to us dressed in what we believe to be it's original factory coat of Reef Turquoise paint. The paint presents well from 10 feet, but a closer inspection reveals chips, touch-ups, scratches, and some checking as well as a few small dings (that could possibly be pulled out). Overall, it is driver-quality paint. The hood sports a raised center-spine with a Pontiac arrowhead badge at the leading edge. Below the hood you'll find one of the few non-original features of this ride. In '66, the Catalina wagons had a split two-tiered grille, but this one now has a split single-opening grille that would have appeared on a Tempest/LeMans/GTO that year. It may not be original, but it sure looks cool. The grille is flanked by stacked dual headlights in bright bezels and below it is a wrap-around chrome bumper. Moving to the side of the car, copious amounts of brightwork come into view, including body side-molding, wheel lip molding, door edge molding, bright windshield and window trim, drip rail molding, door handles, and dual side mirrors. The fenders feature faux louvers that were not offered on the Catalina wagon and a ""421"" badge that lets you know what's hiding under the hood. On the top of the rear passenger's quarter panel is a factory power antenna (inop.). Exhaust tips protrude just behind the rear wheels, adding to the sporty look. The roof is done in white vinyl (just as it was when new) and it is in overall good condition. Atop the vinyl is a chrome roof rack (showing some pitting) that was ordered as an option when new. Complementing the muscular form of this wagon are a set of black deluxe Pontiac 8-lug wheels with Pontiac Motor Division caps all wrapped in American Classic white wall tires. There are beauty rings in the storage area under the rear floor if you'd like to add them. Around back is a tailgate door with an electric window. The window should go up and down with a key in the rear, but it no longer works (nor does the interior switch for it on the dash). The gate features a badge from Al Gallman Pontiac in Florida, a side-to-side chrome band with ""PONTIAC"" lettering, and another ""421"" badge. The gate is flanked by cool vertical taillights and beneath in another chrome bumper. A trailer hitch has been added under the bumper at some point in the car's life.
Lift the hood to reveal a largely stock-looking engine bay with a big blue Pontiac 421ci V-8 at the center. The PHS docs tell us that this Catalina was born with the rare 356hp 421ci V-8 engine (with 3-2-barrel carbs) with a YJ code stamped on the block. This block has that YJ stamp and a trio of 2-barrel Rochesters on top. Pontiac didn't start stamping sequential VIN numbers on blocks until late 1967 so it can't be proven that this is a numbers-matching engine – but, based on the evidence in front of us, we fully believe that it is the original engine that came in this car. The big block is topped off with chrome valve covers, a stock tri-power intake, and the aforementioned carbs. Originally, this engine would have a single air cleaner covering all three carbs, but now they have their own individual air cleaners for a cooler appearance. The engine is outfitted with factory A/C (inop.), power steering, and cruise control (inop.). Mated to the big V-8 is a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a 10-bolt rear axle. Stopping power comes from power 4-wheel drum brakes. We have noted that there is a draw on the battery, so we simply disconnect it when not in use and we put a brand new battery in it. The car fires up easily and runs & drives just as it should.
Open the drivers door and check out the very original-looking turquoise interior that's loaded with factory options. The door panels are done in turquoise vinyl and they feature armrests, vent window cranks, power windows (inop.), and a drivers mirror toggle (inop.). Both the front and rear bench seats are covered in durable, turquoise, luxury-style Morrokide vinyl. Both seats appear original, they are still in very good condition, and the front seat is power-adjustable (inop.). Seatbelts are provided for both front and rear passengers. Overhead is a tight turquoise vinyl headliner and underfoot is original-looking turquoise loop carpet that shows some wear, stains, and fading. The driver is treated to a deluxe gold-ringed 3-spoke steering wheel with wood trim and a working PMD horn button. The wheel is on a tilt column that's also home to the shifter for the automatic transmission. Ahead of the wheel is a crack-free dash with an attractive wood-grain gauge and instrument bezel. When the lights are turned on, the speedometer lights up faintly, but none of the other dash elements illuminate. On the left side of this bezel is an attached Pontiac tachometer that works as it should. The speedometer is flanked by an oil pressure gauge (inop.) and temp gauge. To the right of that are three square driver-facing pods and they contain a gas gauge, battery gauge, and a clock. Above these gauges, mounted under the upper dash lip are controls for the tailgate window (inop.), rear speakers (inop.), and power antenna (inop.). Under the speedometer are controls for cruise (inop.), lights, and wipers (inop.). To the right of the driver are controls for the A/C, heat, and fan, but only the fan works. Next to the HVAC controls is the original Pontiac AM/FM push-button stereo. The stereo works and it plays your cruisin' soundtrack through a dash speaker. Mounted under the dash to the left is a red pull switch, but we have been unable to figure out what it does. Under the center of the dash is an ashtray and what appears to be a factory 8-track player set in a wood-grain surround (untested). Ahead of the front passenger is a section of lighter colored wood-grain with ""421"" badging and a glovebox that contains an 8-track cleaner and an owners manual. Back in the storage area is a removeable side panel that houses the spare tire and a lift up door that covers a large storage space under the floor. The storage area has chrome bars on the floor for sliding cargo in and out without damaging the carpet, which is in better shape in this area.
If you're looking for a classic wagon with muscular styling and the power to back it up, give a serious look at this Catalina! This is one rare Pontiac and it's loaded with options that are validated by PHS docs! While there are a number of things in need of repair on this car, it starts, runs, drives, and stops well – it just needs the little things buttoned up. Believe me, if we went through the car and fixed all of the inop. items, we'd be asking significantly more for it! This is your chance to get a very rare and very cool Pontiac wagon at a reasonable price! Give our friendly staff a call and make this wagon your own!

Here at Cruisin Classics, we understand that you have many options when choosing where you purchase your classic, muscle or collector car and we would like to thank you for considering us.
Cruisin Classics has been buying and selling cars for many years.. The majority were your average daily drivers but our passion has always been in muscle cars and hot rods so in 1996, Cruisin Classics built a 56,000 sq.ft. showroom located in Columbus, OH that they still operate out of today. All of our vehicles are hand-picked and selected to ensure they fit our inventory. This facility is now arguably one of the best-stocked collections for sale in the US housing hundreds of unique automobiles all under one roof. We invite you to our facility! There is something for everybody when you come to visit.
After years of serving as central Ohio's premiere classic car dealer at Cruisin Classics Auto Sales, we saw an unfulfilled need that was not being met for our clients. We loved helping match our clients with the classic and American muscle cars of their dreams. But what about after the purchase? We recognized that our clients needed a trusted resource to continue to care for their classic vehicles. It did not sit well with us that our valued clients and their incredible vehicles were being outsourced to, sometimes several, third-party resources for maintenance and performance needs. We also wanted to help the many people that we had met over the years who already owned classic vehicles which were in need of restoration, upgrades, and maintenance. Too often, we were seeing vehicles with so much potential left sitting in garages under covers because their owners did not know who to turn to for such specialized work. It is our goal to offer our clients a truly comprehensive, seamless, and enjoyable classic car ownership experience, from purchase to maintenance to storage. Thus, Cruisin Classics Performance Center was born. We have cherry-picked the most talented, experienced, and passionate team of technicians to offer our clients a true one-stop-shop solution for any and all of their classic car needs. Our honest business model has lasted almost 25 years to date and Cruisin Classics has a worldwide reputation as one of the best in the business.
Outside of the shop, this business has afforded us the opportunity to be actively involved in our community and fulfill our goal of supporting several local and national organizations that hold a special place in our hearts. We are proud sponsors of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, the Columbus USO, Honor Flight, Special Olympics, multiple car clubs, and much more.
In conclusion, 100% customer satisfaction is our main goal. Always has been.. always will be. We would like to invite anyone considering one of our vehicles to come to our beautiful facility to inspect the car in person or send somebody on your behalf.
