Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is proud to present this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle, a true piece of American muscle car history that has been thoughtfully upgraded for modern performance while retaining its classic roots. Originally born as a 396 car, this Chevelle carries the legacy of big block heritage but now benefits from a freshly rebuilt 355 CID V8 that brings a new level of responsiveness and drivability to the table.
Finished in a beautiful blue exterior, this Chevelle captures attention with its clean lines and unmistakable mid-60s muscle car presence. The black vinyl interior provides a timeless contrast, offering a simple and driver-focused cabin that stays true to the era while remaining comfortable and functional. Equipped with power steering and power brakes, this Chevelle is as easy to enjoy on the road as it is to admire at a standstill.
Under the hood is where this car truly tells its story. The rebuilt 355 CID V8 has been assembled with performance and reliability in mind, featuring Clevite 77 main and rod bearings, a Coyes roller timing chain, and Silvolite 10:1 pistons. The engine is topped with 76cc heads with 1.94/1.50 valves, a 3-angle valve job, and hardened seats, complemented by Z28 valve springs, Johnson hydraulic lifters, and Crane roller rockers. An Isky 264 Mega camshaft helps deliver a strong, aggressive powerband, while the Weiand Stealth high-rise intake and Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM carburetor provide excellent airflow and fuel delivery. A high-performance HEI distributor ensures consistent ignition, and Hooker headers help this small block breathe while giving it a deep, unmistakable exhaust tone. A high-torque mini starter rounds out the setup for reliable starts every time.
Backing the engine is a rebuilt TH350 automatic transmission that shifts smoothly and confidently, making this Chevelle a great cruiser with plenty of muscle when you want it.
This 1966 Chevelle represents a well-balanced blend of classic muscle car pedigree and upgraded small block performance. It offers the look, the sound, and the feel that enthusiasts crave, while the thoughtful engine build makes it a car you can truly get out and enjoy. Whether you're looking for a weekend cruiser, a show car, or a nostalgic ride with added bite, this Chevelle stands ready to deliver.
