"1965 Sunbeam Alpine Convertible
""The 1965 Sunbeam Alpine emerges not merely as a car but as a symbol of British motoring elegance. Born from the roots of Sunbeam-Talbot, this roadster was manufactured by the Rootes Group, which sought to capture the spirit of adventure and freedom in a post war world. The Alpine's sleek design and spirited performance made it a standout model during the 1960s, capturing the hearts of driving enthusiasts and celebrities alike."" Metroparts.com
For consignment, a 1965 Sunbeam Alpine convertible showing 12,881 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to title exemption. More from Metroparts: ""Underneath its bonnet, the 1965 Sunbeam Alpine housed a 1.7-liter four cylinder engine capable of propelling it to respectable top speeds for its era. The sprint from 0-60 mph was achieved in under 13 seconds-a lively performance that could make any weekend drive feel like an escape to the countryside.""
Exterior
It's an Alpine, so fitting that this one is bathed in Glen Green paint, covering the sporty profile that includes those iconic tailfins capped by vertical tail lights and flanking a compact decklid with Sunbeam prominently displayed. The fins also serve as the origin for the shoulder line of the car that traverses straight to the front where it becomes to top of the raised fender capped and contoured by the singular headlights. From there, you'll find the narrow grille and straight bumper, giving the Alpine its unique fascia. Rising from that straight shoulder line is the curved windshield, slightly raked and flanked by sport mirrors, and the black canvas soft top and its sizable plastic rear window. 13-inch steel wheels wear simple hubcaps, trim rings, and 185/70R13 tires. Imperfections include various scratches, chips, pitting trim, a few tears in the top, rough surface at the top of fins near the tail light trim, several inclusion, holes, off color touch ups, and surface rust spots behind the wheel opening and rocker panel.
Interior
If you were expecting black, you're going to be surprised by the Fawn interior of the car, beginning with the simple vinyl door panels in a tuck and roll pattern framed in body colored steel, each presenting cleanly. From there, the bucket seats mirror the pattern and color, and the condition except the driver's seat show some wear at the ingress point and the passenger's shows a series of small holes. A suggested rear bench is also in nice shape and likely serves more as a luxurious package shelf. Up front is the driver focused cockpit British roadsters are known for, including a large, wood rimmed steering wheel fronting a clean dashboard with black faced gauged framed in polished rims. The honey colored burlwood on the dash gives way to an open cubby while a polished shifter rises from the transmission hump on the floor. Beige carpet covers that rise and the rest of the floor and shows some light soiling, and presents cleaner on the shelf inside the boot which sits over the spare tire.
Drivetrain
Very clean conditions are found in the bay where we find the 1725cc 4 cylinder engine rated at 99 horsepower and fueled by way of 2 Su carburetors. It's mated to a 4-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear axle and 3.70 gears. Factory headers are on board.
Undercarriage
More on the driver quality side of things underneath where surface rust and oxidation create a non consistent color pattern. Meanwhile, the single exhaust comes off of the factory headers and into a stock style muffler, finally reaching the atmosphere through an expanded chrome tip. Disc brakes are up front and drums in back and suspension includes coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
This spry little Brit comes to life and emits that telltale exhaust note that has thrilled sports car lovers for many decades. Reviews call it nimble and indeed, that proves to be true as we motor along with fins in our rear view mirror. No complaints here as the car does everything well and all functions work as they should, but the car tends to run a bit rough until warmed up. You may find this one in our British roadster room. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
