"1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II LWB Saloon
""Born out of the partnership between Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce, the marque was established in England in 1906. The engineering brilliance of Royce, paired with the business acumen and financial backing of Rolls, was to become legendary. Attention to detail and outstanding performance meant that its first car, the Silver Ghost, was hailed as ""the best car in the world"". Today, the Rolls-Royce name remains a byword for luxury and excellence, and the company is expanding its lineup to cater for an ever expanding customer base."" Classicdriver.com
For consignment, a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II long wheel base Saloon showing 67,241 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to aPA title exemption. There's an extensive list of famous Silver Cloud owners that includes Elvis, Frank, John Lennon, Judy Garland, and Tony Bennett, just to name a few. Even if you're not recognized by your first name only, there's no reason not to join this elite group with this all time iconic classic car.
NOTE: This Vehicle Is Titled As A 1965, But Is Actually A 1960 Model
Exterior
Stately seems like an insufficient word to describe the long lines of the Silver Cloud. Regal, royal, majestic, and magical also come to mind. It's a finely sculpted coach, here in Honey Gold paint that accentuates the subtle character lines and dramatic fender curves by bouncing light and casting shadows. Up front, it's everything you want a Rolls to be, from the grand grille and the Spirit of Ecstasy to the additional lights, badges, and fender mounted side mirrors. The long overhang in the back follows the extended wheelbase and flanks a beautifully rounded decklid behind a tall cabin with large side windows. Red pinstriping flanks the waistline trim that also hides the door handles, and this motif is repeated on the wheel covers over the 15-inch wheels and 75 series tires. Imperfections are imperceptible at distance but up close we note some inclusions in the paint, off color touch ups, chipped paint, edge wear, scratches, a dull area, scuff on bumper, rough edges at rocker panel, light crazing, bubbles, cracking filler, and small chips throughout.
Interior
Rolls-Royce interiors are like pizza; even when they're marginal, they're still pretty darn good! So, we're not put off by the slight patina on the driver's door, sand leather that shows some use and the burlwood header showing the slightest delamination. The other doors are in good shape but will benefit from a deep detailing. Inside, the Sand leather bench also could use the hand of a skilled detailer but presents as inviting and intact. The rear bench and its limousine-like environment show nicely, fronted by acres of burlwood features. More trees sacrificed their outgrowths for the dashboard, a very pleasant panel to sit behind ahead of the standard black steering wheel. A Sony AM/FM/Cassette is tucked into the left side cubby while the stock AM radio resides near the instrument cluster which is positioned in the middle of the dash. Tan carpet floods the floor, the stitched headliner remains tight and clean, and the trunk is both utilitarian and open for luggage with a black carpet.
Drivetrain
Under the long hood is a 6.2 liter V8 with 185 horsepower and a pair of HD6 carburetors. It's backed by a Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power through 2.92 gears at the rear axle. Power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning are on board.
Undercarriage
Generally clean, the underside presents in driver quality conditions with some typical patina, residual oil, and some light rust flaking inside the rockers, along with unsurprising surface rust. We note some tape repairs to the exhaust. Four wheel power drum brakes are here along with a single exhaust that travels through a stock style muffler and resonators. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs out back.
Drive-Ability
The 6.2 starts up and propels this behemoth onto the test loop where it delivers the expected quiet and smooth ride, exemplifying the idiom, ""floating on a cloud"". Point Ecstasy where you want to go and she leads the way. All functions work with the exception of the AM radio and the right rear power window. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
While it may be better to be driven, there's no harm in being the driver of this majestic ride. It represents the best of the best and is one of the most recognizable cars in the world. If you're in on this one, all we can say is fine choice, my good man...or gentle lady....fine choice indeed!
